Thanks to the worthless NCAA. Most teams have to scramble too much to try and be competitive. The ncaa needs to open up the transfer BS after the NCG. It ridiculous

Yes, they have.

If I'm being honest, I don't dislike it that much. As I get older, I realize my wife will support me no matter what, but by December her football nerves are running thin.

I have a lot of good bowl season memories, but I think bowl season is well past its peak. We can't change that, so I try to see the silver lining.

I mean I get what people are saying when they say this. But when did it ever matter? If you were 9-3 in 1997 and went to the citrus bowl what meaning did it have then?

I have an idea - let's expand the playoffs! /s

Expanded CFP is just going to make this worse. Transfers/NIL made the situation bad, expanded playoffs may finish these games off.

A bowl used to be a big deal. A New Year’s Day bowl, back when they actually played them on New Year’s Day, used to be a really big deal.

I agree, you typically played teams you rarely played, so a lot of it was for school/conference pride, and a great way to send your Seniors off with a memorable victory. There's very little team/school loyalty by a good many of today's athletes.

The bowl games outside of ny6 should be running clocks. All these teams are struggling with depth, their struggling to get fans in the stadium, and the only reason teams go is for the vacation.

I saw an article advocating playing the bowl matchups as the openers for each season don't know if it would work but it's interesting.

Bowl games have always been meningless unless a team in contention for a national championship was playing in it. However, I do agree that players should no be allowed to enter the transfer portal or declare for the NFL draft until after bowl season is over.

The meaninglessness of the bowl games tracks with the materialistic nihilism with which most people see most things now.

Why did kids from Harvard and Yale play football in the 1890s? Because it was fun, and being on a team had intrinsic value, and they took pride in things like that.
Now, me me me money money money, everything else is meaningless, I want to go play PlayStation and smoke weed.

Old man yelling at clouds, but you know it’s true.

correction: non-playoff bowl games have been meaningless for a while. The early signing day couple with essentially college free agency has just made the even more meaningless

There were less than half as many bowl games in 1997 than there are this year. Making a bowl back then was a big deal. But they've devalued it by making too many of the damn things to where we now have mid majors with losing records making them

Okay but his point still stands. This didn't start with the CFP (or BCS for that matter). For example, there were 20 bowls in 97 and only 2 of them mattered (and the Rose only mattered for #1 Michigan).

There will be a good number of bowl games that I won't watch.

There will be some that I will watch that not a lot of people will give a s*** about.

End of story.

It sucks, because at most places winning a bowl game should mean something.

Eh. It’s still football. Beats watching the majority of things on TV. I’ll take a bad bowl game over any other sporting event except the NFL right now. And depending on who’s playing in the NFL game on a Thursday night, I might opt for the bowl game instead.

More football > less football
