NORMAN — University of Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley announced Monday afternoon that he has named Jalen Hurts the starting quarterback for the Sooners' Sept. 1 season opener against Houston.
Hurts, a graduate transfer from Alabama, started 14 games in each of the Crimson Tide's 2016 and 2017 seasons, and played in 13 games in 2018. He played in three College Football Playoff National Championships and helped Alabama to the 2017 national title. UA went 41-3 in his three seasons in Tuscaloosa.
Hurts led the Crimson Tide to a 26-2 record as a starter. He saw action in 13 contests in 2018, including the SEC Championship when he replaced injured starter Tua Tagovailoa and rallied UA to a 35-28 win after it trailed 28-21 when he entered the game in the fourth quarter.
From Houston, Hurts owns the Alabama quarterback career record with 23 rushing touchdowns and ranks second in school history among QBs with 1,976 career rushing yards and 71 touchdowns responsible for. He amassed 7,602 yards of total offense and threw for 48 touchdowns, both good for third place in UA history.

I hope he tears it up and gets to NYC.

Personally feel like he’s an awful fit in that system but hope he does well. Seems like a good kid

He wins the Heisman this season and dominates at OU, what does that say about Saban and his offensive coaching ability for legacy sake?

That he was a defensive coach?

He sure as shite isn’t the passer that Murray or Baker are.
But I think he’ll be improved enough to air it out just fine. Alabama doesn’t have anyone on staff as good with QBs as Oklahoma.
He’ll have better coaching. More time to throw. A better system. Probably more open receivers. And more room to run.
I think he’ll shine this year.

Hard not to like this guy, except for him benefitting on multiple holds when he scrambles.

Him winning the Heisman would say more about the offensive system at Oklahoma and speak more to Tua being screwed out of the Heisman.

The bigger issue is the difference in processing between those guys and Jalen.
Hurts is so risk adverse, loves to pat the ball and run around. A big part of that offense is snap and throw. If anyone can fix his issues, it’s Riley. But i have my doubts.

And his dad is one too. Enos elevated his game and Lincoln will maximize it.
Fans of other teams want Bama fans to not root for Jalen, and it's the exact opposite

Absolutely nothing.

Oh it's going to completely kill his legacy and take away his 26 championships and complete domination of the sec

Going to be an interesting season for me. I went to LSU, and my grandson starts there this week, but my daughter starts at OU this week, too.
Already have tickets for several games at OU, so will be fun to see how Hurts does under Riley, and will be a conundrum when/if OU/LSU meet in the playoffs.

Nah, fans of other teams want OU and Bama to play in the semifinals and Jalen replicate what Trevor Lawrence did last season.

You don't have to worry about that Bubba.

Riley’s not gonna like how his system looks if Hurts is running around 80 percent of the game instead of making the correct reads in the passing game
