It's almost ridiculous. It's like you needcto have coached for Saban to get a college foofball job these days.

Saban has more one and done coaches than Coach Calipari has one and done players lately

So why did he suck in the Pros so bad?
His mentors were NFL god coaches.
He had all the chances and help to be a Jimmy Johnson or Pete Carroll and compete with his peers but he ended up being just a Tom Osborne. Getting the kids like Calipari and calling it a day.

And yet the only other coach in that tree to be successful is Kirby Smart.

If Robert Saleh goes 15-17 over the next two seasons with the Jets, would you consider it a failure?

How is Kirby Smart successful? Because he’s managed to keep his job so far?

Dude had 2 seasons then a Brinks truck pulled into his driveway. It was way too brief to decide one way or the other.

As much as I’d like to buy into the “Saban sucked in the NFL” narrative, I agree with you.

The fact that Saban left proves the he knew he likely wouldn’t succeed. He’s said numerous times he messed up leaving the college game. Money was not the primary reason he left Miami.
The lure of Alabama was also his ego after Skip’s response when Saban folks were putting out feelers that he wanted to return to LSU after one season in Miami.

Because you think that about yourself when you leave a job?

Jimbo has had more success than Kirby. Kirby is doing exactly what the guy he replaced did for ~15 years.

will he tell a top 10 QB/greatest FA of all-time to get fricked in favor of a guy with one knee?

I left my previous job for my current job 11 years ago. At the time, the salary was about the same but the benefits we’re far greater. The old job required me to be on my feet 8-10 hours a day. I also considered the long term viability of the company compared to the new job.
So yes, I looked at which job would help me to reach my goals better.
Saban realized that without a carrot, the whip wouldn’t work. He saw that as a head coach, he was better suited for college than he was for the pros.

Their are some serious issues with some of you in this thread. Lose the hate and obsession, you will thank me later.

Just STFU.
Not close to the same success for Jimbo once he started coaching in the SEC.
15 years? WTF ate you talking about?
Richt had 0 NY6 bowl victories his last
5 years and Kirby has 3 and double the amount of top 10's and top 5' in the same period.
BTW, if he's such a shite coach how come
his assistants get offers year after year?
3 of his assistants have become P5 HC's,2 current assistants are in line to become DC's and of course Texas offered Lanning the same posistion.
Why in the world are these schools offering guys who coached under a such a incompetent HC?

He sucked in the pros because the players are even. He has to have a talent advantage to be successful.

That Dolphins roster was absolute trash. The only people who think he sucked are jealous SEC fans.
