One source told ESPN that players on the call were told that they could be fined for conduct detrimental if they are found to have engaged in "reckless" behavior away from the team facility, such as eating out in restaurants and using ride-sharing services.

Players were told that there has been discussion about wearable contact tracers that would allow teams to identify people with whom an infected player had interacted, and that if they tested positive their families could be tested as well.

The call began, sources told ESPN, with updates from Mayer on the virus in general. The player reps were told, among other things, that testing can decrease transmission but that the virus is very serious and should be taken seriously, that African American males are more susceptible to it.

Players also have been asking what happens to their contracts if they opt not to play for virus-related reasons (as some NBA players already have), what happens if they grow too uncomfortable to play as the season goes on and what happens to next year's salary cap as a result of lost revenue this year.

These players have very specialized contracts and are worth millions if not billions ultimately to these owners. It isn’t exactly unfair of the team owners to expect responsibility and restraint from the players so they can do the jobs they get paid for whether they perform or not. If they want to live their lives as they see fit then they can break their contracts.

Cap is based on revenue...revenue is going down this year no matter what happens...wish some of these kids actually paid attention in Class while getting their free rides

Also NBA has fully guaranteed contracts and most of them opted out because they had already been paid.

NFL wont hand out that same luxury. There may be some level of concession but nothing close to the 80-90% pay acquired to stay home the NBA did

If all these rules are in the players’ current contracts, I agree. If not, your take sucks, and the owners can kick rocks.

Anyone with a signing bonus may be safe next year when the cap contracts.

Anyone with a large salary which doesn’t have a significant cap hit attached to it is going to be leaned on heavily to renegotiate or get cut.

And you are correct that it won’t be as favorable to them as to the NBA players. NBA contracts are generally guaranteed in full for X number of seasons and have options built in for further seasons.

NFL contracts? Only thing guaranteed is the signing bonus. The risk of dead cap space is what keeps some players around despite their value declining.
