NFL tells teams they will forfeit games if they have a COVID outbreak cancellation
quote:

Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero
The NFL just informed clubs that if a game cannot be rescheduled during the 18-week season in 2021 due to a COVID outbreak among unvaccinated players, the team with the outbreak will FORFEIT and be credited with a loss for playoff seeding, per sources.

Massive implications.

Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero
Here’s more from today’s memo, which also says the team responsible for a canceled game because of an outbreak among unvaccinated players/staff will be responsible for financial losses and subject to potential discipline from the commissioner. Wow.

quote:

Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero
The league intends to play its entire 272-game schedule over 18 weeks (17 games per club). And this is key:

"We do not anticipate adding a '19th week' to accommodate games that cannot be rescheduled within the current 18 weeks of the regular season."

Play on time or don't play.

What team was it that kept benefitting from this last year? Pittsburgh?

I'm not reading all that. What if both teams have a covid outbreak? And then what if only one team has room to reschedule, does that team get the victory because they are able to show up the second time?

This seems like a cute end-run around the CBA.

Will never happen. They will exhaust every resource possible to reschedule before they do this

Steelers got fricked by opponent outbreaks more than anyone else in the league

The 2nd tweet specifically says it's targeting unvaccinated players

First thing I thought, what if the outbreak was multiple vaccinated players

This is the NFL telling teams "We're starting on time and we're ending on time. If you have an outbreak that causes a cancelation and you can't fit the game back in this schedule somewhere, you forfeit."

So yes they will have options to try and reschedule the game... but extending the season isn't 1 of them

Testing them if symptomatic obviously fine. But asymptomatic insane

Part of this is bull shite. If a team cannot play the game because of a COVID outbreak, that team has to compensate the league (and therefore other teams) for the loss revenues. But the other team's players have to lose a check, why don't they get compensated by the forfeiting team?

Also sounds like they are making this a hard stance for unvaccinated players. But, if the outbreak is from vaccinated players, the league will try to accommodate and appears may even cover the lost revenues.

I believe you’re thinking of the Ravens. The league bent over backwards to accommodate their games, even though they weren’t following the rules. Much to the detriment of their opponents.

Then made Denver play without a QB

They shouldn't be testing anyone who has had COVID either.

This isn’t April of 2020. No amount of positive tests should cancel a game.

Just don’t test your players. Problem solved.

Looks like Goodell is following what Sankey outlined for SEC
The NFL taking it's marching orders from the SEC now

These are pro athletes in incredible physical condition. They shouldn't be testing, period. This is fricking ridiculous.
