...every few plays. You’ll see them wave someone else on or tap their helmets. Same in college and most high school. When I played, you didn’t come off unless the coach called you off or you were injured. I wonder how this effects the coordinators? I saw Kamara pull himself out earlier...what if the next play Payton wanted to run was a play that featured him? Just saw Ezekiel Elliott do the same thing on a 3rd down

Zeke does it a lot on third down. But he also has more carries than any one else in the NFL, so I'll let it slide.

Because fresher legs are probably a better option. I wouldn’t want a winded guy trying to run a long route or get out of a cut quickly, could cause a turnover

I'd imagine they're encouraged to do it.

Coaches tell them if they need a blow tap your helmet. They are pretty much taught this

I’m sure they are, and that’s cool. But say you’re CSP and it’s 3rd and 8. You run a pass play to someone on the basis that Michael Thomas has been getting double teamed all day, only MT pulled himself out for some water or whatever and now the matchup you were betting on is no longer there.

I’m not being critical of it just wondering if it sometimes causes issues for the coaches

WR's get a lot more plays off than backs do.

In college and the NFL there is the understanding on inside runs to not really do anything if you're out wide across the field. A lot of guys don't run backside routs full speed, etc.

I never really realized how lazy receivers were until I got to college and went against receivers who weren't just the normal high school guys playing. A lot don't put in effort if they don't have to.
