The NFL announced that teams can now have two Thursday Night Football games per season. Limit was one. Now that’s changed.

Flexing for TNF is not happening … for now.

quote:

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on TNF games having flex scheduling: “Our fans come first. That’s important. Part of what we do is giving our fans the best games. We’re going to be careful with it.”

Talks on having it has been tabled until May. “We’ll see,” Goodell said.

quote:

Roger Goodell on Patrick Mahomes’ tweet: “I don’t think we’re putting Amazon over our players. … The data doesn't show higher injury rate.'. … I hear from players who also love the 10 days after a Thursday Night game. We have to try to balance all of it. ”

I don't know anyone who actually enjoys Thursday night football. It's basically the Natty Light of the football world.

They wouldn’t play on Thursdays if this was true.

The players should have fought it harder years ago. It’s too big and profitable now. They’ll never be able to negotiate it away. They wouldn’t be willing to give the concessions it would take.

The shitty part for fans is that the quality of college games on Thursday has gone down because they don’t want to waste a good game going to head to head with the NFL. Thursdays on ESPN used to be awesome.

Can't imagine now teams are good with this. There just isn't enough time off the week of a Thursday game which naturally leads to a shittier product

NFL "player safety" logic:

Ban pooch punts

Here's 2 game per year where you have 3 days rest between car accidents.

I’m m pretty sure Goodell manages the NFL like the fashion industry. Let’s see how many ridiculous ideas we can throw out there and convince the customers to accept.

Thursday games are already a terrible product. So let’s have two!!!!

If that was true we wouldn't have TNF crammed down our gullets.

I can do without it as long as there's a MAC game on.
