What happened?

One and done?

Shaq vs Laettner

Jamal Mashburn vs Whomever

Gtown vs Duke/NC

Mich vs tOSU

I remember it used to be huge. Why is it that most sports fans couldn't tell you the top 3 teams or players in the league today?

Is it as simple as one and done, or something more?

One and dones are part of it. Other factors like: No rhythm and flow to the game. Horrible officiating.

We have over 500 cable channels and 7 or 8 steaming networks to choose from these days.

Should lead to more engagement, not less.

One of my points:

I am not trying to be combative, fwiw. Just wondering

Over-reliance on the three-point shot.

Much more fun to watch then teams shooting from the elbow.

This isn’t the issue

I think it’s the no rhythm and horrible officiating.

Regular season CBB is the worst sports product going right now.

But the tourney is still the most electric sporting event on the calendar.

I fricking love college basketball and watch a ton of rd regular season, but uhh, the basketball definitely sucks these days.

Far cry from when the NBA sucked to watch.

It doesn’t help that the top 3 teams are a small Catholic school in the Pacific Northwest, a small Baptist school best known for rape and murdering teammates, and a small suburban Catholic school outside Philly.

Blue bloods like UCLA, Indiana, Duke, Georgetown, UNC, Kentucky all suck or below expectations. The Big East is a shell of what people remember. It’s just a different game now.

Whistles every 2 trips down the floor and one and done lowering the level of team cohesion and overall play. Also gives fans less of a chance to get attached to players.

I was just thinking about this. I haven’t watched a single second of any basketball this year and basketball is my favorite sport. The product is down right awful due to officials taking over the game instead of letting teams play. Another thing I hate is all the flopping going on, it’s almost as bad as professional soccer

Huge part. Once got to see elite veterans/ role players in College for 3 or 4 seasons.

Little continuity & player name recognition.

The shot clock has ruined the game. It’s taken away the variety of strategies. The overcoaching as well. In the past you had coaches that allowed their players to play run the iso set or motion as the game flowed. Now you have coaches just calling out every adjustment changing the flow. The one and done maybe but fans attach to schools not players.

When Houston beat UCLA in 1968( " Game of The Century " . ) There have been some huge regular season games.

Yikes, no. There are many reasons, but this ain't it.

The biggest reason is college teams aren't stacked with experienced talent like the used to be before the one and done rule. The quality of play just isn't very good.

Why can't they have a rule similar to baseball? You can come out after high school, but if you sign with a school you have to stay 3 years.

Actually you’re wrong on this. Everyone is running the same stuff. In the past you had different strategies and a clock doesn’t increase scoring or efficiency The lowering of the clock has worsened the pace. It needs to go back to 45.
