According to a rumor from SEC Network’s Jarrett Sutton, at least one NBA executive thinks that Kansas City is another potential spot for expansion. Via Twitter:

quote:

NBA Executive: “Jarrett, going to be real honest with you, Kansas City will get an NBA team at some point. It’s a real thing I’ve heard from multiple sources. Just a matter of time. Seattle and KC to me are most valuable markets for league expansion when it makes sense.”

Kansas City does have the advantage of already being a sports town, a top 33 TV market, and it has an NBA-sized arena in the Sprint Center. KC is also the host city for the Big 12 tournament.

If that league goes to 32, it will be even easier to predict who will be in the finals every single year.

Just what the nba needs, a 28th team that has no shot to win.

How is this a story?

Jesus Christ. I didn't look at who started the thread.

Yup. The only way to beat these super teams is with superior depth like the Mavs in 2011 and the Spurs in 2014. It's much harder to build up quality depth after expansion. Expansion will make it easier for teams with elite superstars to win than it already is.

Imo it will be a god damned travesty if any city gets an NBA franchise before Seattle

Not to hijack the thread...but really the only way to beat these super teams is to change the cap rules. And Adam Silver has said in the past that teams like Golden State are good for basketball and the NBA because they are so talented and fun to watch. So it appears he doesn't intend on changing the cap rules to prevent super teams anytime soon. Plus that's something they'd have to work out with the players in the CBA negotiations which adds a whole other dynamic to this.

With that said, I'm willing to bet NBA TV Money is starting to become negatively affected by these super teams because there are fewer playoff series that are going to 6/7 games in the last two years. 3 years ago there were so many game 7s and the NBA got a nice extra chunk of change. These last two years where the money goes down may hopefully change Adam Silver's tone a bit. On the other side of that, these super teams are likely a big factor in the NBA getting a much larger TV deal a few years ago. So, it's a tough balancing act. The super teams draw fan interest because basketball is such star-driven league. But in the end, it gets old watching the same 3-4 teams compete.

I could definitely see expansion happening but I’d hope and think that Seattle is choice #1 as they should be

Is the reason they won't go to St Louis because of what the Spirit have be continually doing to them since they folded?

They don’t need expansion. Retraction would be better.

Why would they move OKC there? They're going on like 8 years of consecutive sellouts

This is misleading. KC wouldn't be a franchise in lieu of Seattle. It would be a franchise along with Seattle. They'd expand by two teams, not one.

KC, Louisville, Mexico City, Vegas, Vancouver are all strong possibilities.

For the person that said the Pels would move East, I would think the Grizzlies would first unfortunately depending on where the second franchise is located.

IMO, the NBA needs to contract six teams and distribute the talent. Expansion is the last thing that league needs.
