NBA and NCAA Betting
Posted by supadave3 on 12/25/19 at 1:36 pm04
So, I'm an avid sports gambler and have bet on football for 20+ years. I know all the ins and outs of it, types of bets, strategies, odds, money management, etc. A very disciplined gambler playing for the marathon, not a sprint.
I've cashed out my original deposit from this year and have a good chunk of house money that I'm leaving in to play BB games and the remaining NFL playoff and bowl games, which historically I don't do very well on, but cie la vie.
I'm wanting to start getting into basketball but I'm just not a huge fan of the game. Trying to learn. When handicapping games, what are some of the things ya'll look for? Any links or anything that I can start building a foundation to make educated picks, or is this one of those things that you pretty much have to have a natural love of the game for to really enjoy?
I don't know, I guess I'm just not ready to hang up the gambling season yet but don't want to rely totally on others to make decent picks.
Trying to listen to some podcast that will help me to learn their strategies, just wondered if ya'll had any advice.
Especially the college game, I know I really just don't GAF about the NBA.

take the absolute worst line you can find and bet it, trust me it works over the long run, the more painful it looks the better the line is. It took me years of painful losses to understand this concept

I’m going to start real small, just probably look at little $5 bets or so to get my feet wet and give me a rooting interest in the games and a reason to pay attention.

if you were so “avid” and good at it, you’d know how to figure this out
Yeah, i realized as soon as I posted it that it was pretty stupid and I wasn't going to get anything really useful. I then put $5 on the Wizards and won.
I don't know, just wish I could figure out a way to pick basketball games without having to watch basketball games.
NM, this thread should good as well be deleted or sink into oblivion.

I think it’s a very reasonable question. Going from football to basketball when you have never really bet basketball is not easy. But I understand the end of year withdrawal.
I just don’t think you’re going to get any kind of educated answers on this site. Just a bunch of people making fun of you because they have nothing of relevance to add. So goes tiger droppings.
Check out kenpom.com for some background on NCAA. Biggest issue with his sight now is that many odds makers rely on his numbers to set the line

It's definitely real. It's my only real hobby, handicapping games and then watching them play out. Win or lose, it's a source of entertainment.

I'll check it out. If the odds makers respect it, it must have some pretty credible info.
