Now, that the big SEC teams are dealing with these issues suddenly it’s a national emergency?
No. We aren't talking about a gibbs situation where "oh this guy played really well and now he's going somewhere else. Damn". We're talking about "our team is in the playoffs and our starting QB might hold out and stay in the locker-room unless we pay him more this afternoon". Can you not see the difference?

You are now having to deal with players just like we have had to
Again, no. No team or program in the history of CFB has had to deal with what's currently going on until about 5-7 years ago. This is new for everyone.

Of course, you want to end the portal
I want to end the portal because players playing on 6-month contracts then freely leaving from one year to the next is fricking stupid. It has nothing to do wtih my team being good or not. If I wanted to watch hired mercenaries like that I'd sipmly be an NFL fan

he days of you guys having NFL caliber backups are over.
you are absolutely obssessed with UGA in that the only points you ever make on the topic are ones that are somehow negatively impacting UGA and you think that's a victory for america. This is absolutely awful for the game of college fotoball and there really isn't any other way to spin in.
If we could rewind the clock to 1998 where both UGA and GT were really good but not great but college football was still college football I'd take it.

With a transfer QB!
from a shitty lower tier school. You just continue to reinforce my points over and over again.

Ahh now we see what this is really about

From a team that was in the playoff the very next year!

a comically expanded playoff, with a QB that transferred to crappy Indiana from an EVEN CRAPPIER lower level team. I mean at this point you just have to be some kind of masochist to continue bringing up points that both make me look right and you look retarded.

Free market, I thought most here liked it.
It isn't a free market. That's actually the problem. Real contracts would actually tame a lot of this garbage.

They lost one game all season!

I’d argue, this is actually a free market, and everything else isn’t. But unlike a lot of posters, I think common sense regulation is a good thing and don’t think we should have actual free markets or you have lawlessness like this

That only made it in because they played the worst schedule of any team in the FBS. In the regular season they played only three teams that finished with a winning record (Nebraska, Michigan, and Ohio State) and didn't beat a single ranked team.

I agree with you, but that’s not really relevant to the conversation

I honestly barely even watch college sports anymore. They definitely should get paid but the current state is absolutely bullshite.

Unfortunately the courts keep allowing this.

What’s the solution?
Salary cap per conference?
One free transfer, then lose eligibility unless coach transfers?
Frankly I don't even care about a salary cap. The thing that needs to happen is to allow the players to have actual contracts with the teams. Contracts that can last years. And yeah they need to change the transfer rule. Do it as you mentioned. One free transfer or if your head coach of coordinator leave you get another one. None of this TJ Finley bullshite.

man frick these players
here is the deal.....there are tens of thousands of fans of schools in the SEC just like me.....we make a very good living and would be considered higher class but on the low end......well we are not going to continue to donate to make 18-19 year olds multi millionaires so that they can make more than us and live a better lives.....all just to win games.
also tons of fans who have passed down season tickets for generations....they too are going to eventually stop because they cant afford it or it just is no longer fun because its all.....more money, more money, more money and they hate it
bottom line is the schools in the SEC and Big 10 routinely put 40-50k in the stands back when it was really student athletes. go back to

Dawg,
I am not obsessed with UGA. They just happen to be the top dog right now (pun intended) because they used every trick in the book under Kirby to get over Bama finally.
I absolutely respect Kirby and your boosters for using the non-enforced rules to buy 2 Natties. Something Richt wasn’t as good at. I’ve been screaming for GT to buy players for decades but unfortunately the fanbase isn’t as rabid for wins like yours is which is why we let Gailey sit around for a decade winning 7 games a year.
Listen, I know Trenton Thompson’s family down here in Albany. He was the #1 recruit in the country several years back and I know exactly what he was paid by UGA boosters because every coach in South Georgia knows because the they were telling everyone and proud of their boy. Just like everyone knows exactly what Kam Davis got from FSU the other year.
The system has been broken for decades (were you happy when Auburn bought a Natty). I’m glad guys like you have woken up to how bad this system has ALWAYS been. But unlike your opinion, I never want to go back to the days where only certain teams could buy players. My team got put on probation for our wide receiver receiving free clothes from his cousin who was an agent. Meanwhile, you guys gave Walker a car and Auburn gave Cam money and the NCAA never even stepped foot on your campus. Meanwhile, SMU was given the death penalty for the same thing.
Listen, UGA and GT will be fine in whatever system comes from this because our fan bases in the south care about the sport and we both have money. I’m just glad NIL now allows my administration to buy players like most southern teams were already doing.

LSU, you are 1000% correct. The fans have been playing the part of the fool for decades. Other fanbases figured it out years ago but yet we get made fun of when we have 35,000 on a Saturday. I’m a big GT fan, but long are the days where I’m spending big money on players, hotels, travel, etc over people who don’t care if I lived or died.
How many threads have we seen about X fanbase taking over a stadium. I’ve never understood that at all. Who cares. We are all suckers. Why should glorified PE teachers be making 5-10 million a year to coach a bunch of 20 year olds? I love the sport and will continue to spend some disposable income on it but I understand the dynamic. I root for my jersey and I have zero attachment or feelings for any player and a I can live with that. My team is on the upswing now that we can buy players so I think I’ll be enjoying the immediate future even if it’s only 8-9 wins at max.

Imagine still being a fan of this shitshow. I have gone from spending way too much time and money on college sports to spending almost zero of both in 2 years.
The powers that be who think that college sports will be a cash cow no matter what they do are completely wrong.

So you think artificially restricting the type of agreements parties can use to define and enforce obligations is a "free market"? I take no pleasure in telling you that restricting the ability to contract is the antithesis of a free market.
