I get that, but that was before we won a title. Things change after you win the championship. Clemson, Alabama, and Ohio State can afford to pay top money for their coaches and staff. Why can’t LSU? Isn’t it one of the most profitable in college football?

Day isn’t but Urban did. I get what you’re saying that Dabo and Saban (and Urban when he was still active) are in a tier of their own, but what is O’s value right now? What does a coach have to do AFTER a championship win to justify $40+ million? A second championship?

He deserves the raise. Does it mean that he's one of the top 5 coaches in the country? That remains to be seen, but he certainly earned this one.

his new deal is in that next tier, but the whole pitch was to come in under his market value
His market value is nowhere near $7 million because he's not going to go anywhere. If there either no demand for him or he's not willing to go anywhere, why the hell would you give him $6-7 million when he would've taken $4 mill? That's just lighting fire to piles of cash.

Get back to me in 3 years when 80% of this board is wanting him fired for not being able to beat A&M or Mississippi State, and maybe Ole Miss too.

And after O? Do you want to be seen by coaches as the stingy university that pays a coach 4 mil a year after bringing the worst passing offense in college football to the GREATEST offense in the history of college football?

Woody and the athletic foundation must just have buttloads of cash to spend if they’re throwing money around like this, makes me wonder what they’ll pay the next DC and passing game coordinator lol

we roll out Justin McMillan last year and O's seat is nuclear by the end of 2018. remember we lost 3 games...with Burrow (and Brennan got to RS)

I think it's safe to say that this idea is out of the door. I'd guess the coordinator pay will fall much more in line with P5 averages.

He was already making $4M.

Is This a record? It’s gotta be an all time record. Congrats to O for getting his money. I been having a good feeling this day was coming.

And if they put a contract in front of him making $4.1 he would've signed it. He ain't going anywhere.
You pay top dollar when there's demand or wandering eyes.
I take that back. If you're not spending other people's money that's what you do.

Here's an idea. You save $2-3 million a year on his contract, draw interest on it, and pay the next coach $9-10 million a year on his first contract with that money. You could literally hire anyone on earth.
Or, you use that money to hire whatever coordinator you want.
Or you gold plate the locker room. Whatever.
But like I said in the other post, when you're spending other people's money, you typically don't worry about cost.

never understood the hate he would get. the guy would run thru a burning building, shirtless for his players and employer
