And eliminate the fair catch touchback outside of the EZ

Almost every top tier college kicker can get it deep into if not out of the EZ. Kickoff returns are exciting plays that showcase unique skill sets and need to make a comeback.

This is the opposite of what the NCAA/NFL wants.

Likely will see the elimination of the kick return within the next 15-20 years

Then the NFL/NCAA are stupid. Fans, players, and coaches should all want returns to return.

We need kickoff to reach peak levels of excitement heading into the game. It would suck if they just trotted out the offense with no crescendo.

Kickoffs are great excitement boosters but think of how many players have gotten seriously injured on kickoffs. It’s better for the long term health of the game that they happen less.

I'm sure it happens so often

Eric LeGrand, Devon Gales, Chris Norton and others that have been paralyzed by hits sustained during kick-offs would probably disagree.

I wonder how many people on this board realize that the NCAA was formed because football was in jeopardy of being outlawed due to the rising number of player deaths.

Derek Stingley Jr’s grandfather got paralyzed while catching a pass. Should the forward pass be banned?

Just get rid of them. It will at least speed up the game. Instead of:

A. Team scores
B. Commercial Break
C. Kick-off
D. Another Commercial Break
E. Play resumes

Move the kickoff to the 50, eliminate running starts, and make a touchback the same as kicking out of bounds.

This way the kickoff is always put in play, players are safer, and different types of kicks (pooch, squib, boom, onside) are all in play for every kickoff.

Disagree. We will see it within 5-10 years. Tackling altogether will be gone within 15-20 years. I was watching the replay of the 1996 Fiesta Bowl between Nebraska and Florida. Talk about things have changed. No replay and liberal penalties. So much different from when then till now when football was pussified.

They did preliminary assessments of serious head/spine/neuro injuries before they moved the KO to its present spot, and found something like 45% of the non-concussion injuries that fell in the most serious category happened during KOR.

It was a no brainer, at that point. The kickoff is dead.

The XFL has an interesting idea for kick offs - moving the coverage team to the opponent 35. The return team lines up at the 30. The return team cant move until the ball is caught.

I like the idea I heard from someone in the NFL.

4th and 10 at your own 35...u can punt or go for instead of the onside kick. There seems to be more safe then the kickoffs collisions you see the way it was explained but Im all for player safety. I think it would also make things more interesting seeing teams go for it instead of punting.

I didn't want any returns this year, i wanted Joey to be padding more stats. I hoped we started on our own 10 every possession

Probably so. Football is trying to shield itself from future litigation.

The real downside is there’d be no more onside kicks.
