Right? They haven't said anything about what it means for the upcoming year.

Martinez a 5 year deal, was playing on some Red So boards and someone mentioned it was only 20m a year

Boras has already said they want 7-years.

So he'll probably get 6-years, &155-170 mil.

I don't think $20 mil a year is a bad place to start and work from there. But if it's a last ditch, take it or leave it than he'll laugh Boston off the phone

ETA:

Jeezzzzz, Fangraphs value calculator has Martinez's value over the next five-years at only $81.2 mil

Ken Rosenthal Verified account @Ken_Rosenthal 12 minutes ago

Report from @BNightengale, quoting persons close to Eric Hosmer, says #Royals have offered him 7 years, $147M while #Padres have offered 7 years, $140M. Whether Hosmer and Scott Boras jump at either number remains to be seen. Their goal likely is eight years and up; Hosmer is 28.

Yeah I don’t see any way that deal ends up working out

That is a big commitment for a franchise like KC

KC trying to save face and keeping Hosmer is a good start...
Of course this won't help them currently but it will keep the fanbase happy for a bit

If you’re Eric Hosmer you have to jump at that offer from KC. That’s a lot of money and a much lower state income tax in Missouri than California.

Hosmer better take it, he and his former KC team mate will be looking at 1 year deals, if they dont get signed soon.

There isn't one team willing to give moose more than a 1 year deal, GM's think his poor defense and last year was a farce.

Hosmer will pigeon toe himself into a corner also, if he continues to stay out there and allows Boras to run the show.

We've watched this before, Boars holds out, and pushes all in at the end with A high, while all the gm's have a straight. Boras plays off of desperation, but the Game is changing, as are GM's and the way they look at player value.

Hosmer fWAR by season ( yes I know its not a perfect stat)

2011 = 1.0

2012 = -1.7

2013 = 3.2

2014 = 0

2015 = 3.5

2016 = -0.1

2017 = 4.1

He basically alternates between being pretty good and completely useless. How a small market team justifies nearly $150 million for that is baffling

Yelich will cost a kings ransom. That contract is super team friendly, and Marlins plan on getting value for it.

Look at What Ozuna cost and add a top prospect or 2.

2018 7mil
2019 9.7 mil
2020 12.5 mil
2021 14 mil His prime years
2022 15 mil or 1.5 buy out.

That contract would be gold for even the smallest market clubs, and Atlanta is not one.

I thought Marlins wanted to keep both? That’s a quick pivot.

Both have expressed a desire to leave, you don't want unhappy players it usually ends up bad for both parties.

I know what you're saying and you aren't wrong, but the dude was the face of a very talented team that won the World Series and lost another.

The one thing he needs to change is his swing. His low trajectory when he hits the ball is his glaring weakness.

Yeah, I love how Hosmer plays the game. One of my favorites. Great leader and clubhouse guy as well which is invaluable.

Delino is our everyday CF right now.

Cain is a nice upgrade there.

Will depend on the price if we sign him.
