Another thing worth noting is that it's pretty interesting this is given out a year after the Cardinals had 3 picks in the first round and lost their first round pick this year after signing Dexter Fowler

Anything would have been "unprecedented" since this was new criminal behavior that even the patriots would find scummy.

Not sure why that's interesting. They literally just got the court records unsealed.

It's a pretty significant penalty. You won't have a pick in the first three rounds next year and it fricks with your draft pool money

Any punishment would have been unprecedented. The Red Sox lost 5 prospects and were banned from signing players for a year.
So in comparison, yeah, I think this punishment was weak.

Cards fans seem to be pretty alright with it. I assumed it was going to be worse

Really had no idea what to expect. Uncharted territory.

I'm alright with it in the sense that a punishment was necessary and expected. I don't think we got off with a weak punishment. Losing that much bonus pool fricking sucks, but can't really do anything about it and can't really complain about it either.

As much as I hate this phrase, "It is what it is."

Cards left with little over $2M for entire draft, no picks in 1st 3 rounds

That is going to effect the way they approach the draft... They will pick a bunch of college seniors, high school guys with grade issues, and latin players... guys they can give a bag of McDonalds to and they'd sign. Going to be tough to sign guys with college time left, or the ability to go JUCO route until next year.

This barely rises over a slap on the wrist. Cards fans should be ecstatic.

They didnt even have a first in this draft. The penalty should have included their first rd pick next season.

One of their picks lost was a competitive balance pick which is ridiculous. Definitely a slap on the wrist.

You're focusing on the wrong part of the equation. The two picks aren't what's meant to be the punishment. It's the 35% of the projected bonus pool that got wiped away with those two picks.

They knew the penalties were coming and likely had a hunch it would involve loss of a draft pick. By signing Fowler, they sacrificed a draft pick they weren't going to have anyway. It made more sense to spend that pick on a free agent than to sit on it and lose it for nothing.

So on this, I agree.

On the opposite side of the punishment thing, what are Stros fans thoughts on the extra picks and bonus pool yall now have?
