i never said it was. but the current model obviously isnt sustainable. there has to be some type of level playing field if this is going to be a competition. like a salary cap or something.

Yes there is. It's actually quite easy.

P4 teams break off from ncaa and collectively bargain a deal with the players. Install a commissioner and the schools all have equal voting power like the NFL.

It's not hard at all. Collective bargaining is also about as rock solid in the American court system as anything. See Brady vs the NFL or almost any other case ever brought against the NFL from a unionized player.

college football commissioner

Imagine the corruption?

This isn't 1920, Kenesaw Mountain Landis isn't walking through that door to iron-fist the illusion of "sport being pure".

I'd rather the Wild West live or die by unfettered chaos...than the illusion of control by back door dealings. NCAA and its shady disparate rulings and bias was already bad enough.

This but most importantly he's compromised. Making the REC the commissioner of the sport isn't a good idea.

What if the players don't want to unionize and don't want to collectively bargain? Why would they want to do that? It would only be done as a means to put limits on how much they can make or how much they can transfer. Right now they get to enjoy the wild west of freedom of movement and unlimited NIL. Why would they want to enter into a deal to cap that?

Gundy might be lobbying for the job since he's likely gonna get run out of town because he can't win the watered down Big 12

It would have to be made worth their while, in which case you again go back to the folks who don't want to see them get ANY piece of the real pie, who think they aren't entitled to it.

Bahahaha!

Yeah, the playing field was completely level before NIL. In the era of astronomical coaching salaries and ridiculous facilities, money had nothing to do with winning until all this NIL shite came along and, well, golly gee, the same teams are still winning.

The truth is it isn’t the money. People just don’t like NIL and the portal because it makes it a little harder to pretend that a kid recruited from three time zones away who can barely spell his name and wouldn’t be anywhere near a college campus without his athleticism really gives a shite about your school instead of his own self interests.

There's thousands of fans, who never sniffed a classroom of their favorite "University" that care far far more than the players. But at least the "never went there fans" have something in common with today's players, they both are not Collegiate in the intended definition....but unlike the players, will bleed for their Crimson or Blue. It's upside down.

1. It’s easy to be loyal when life changing money and opportunities aren’t involved. If a fat, broke guy doesn’t cheat on his wife with supermodels and Brad Pitt does, is it because the fat, broke guy is more loyal or perhaps just doesn’t have the same opportunities?

2. College programs recruit from all over the country because winning is more important than loyalty or anything else. Alabama fans would take a 5 star game changer from Los Angeles over a 4 star from Tuscaloosa any day of the week. They will take that top QB in the portal over the mediocre redshirt senior who’s paid his dues.

No one cares about loyalty. The fans just don’t have as much on the line as players and coaches.

They’ll do it quickly if there’s no more college football… is there a rule that LSU HAS to have a team?

Colleges have the biggest leverage there is, that the players need them and they don’t need the players, and that they don’t need athletics as much as the athletes

Oh good grief …

Again, when fans accept that the people who actually put there asses on the line for their entertainment are going to have a seat at the table as far as control and as far as getting a share of the financial pie … mic drop, discussion closed, it’s not changing, accept it and move on … we can make some substantive progress toward cleaning up the present Wild West circus.

The Wild West circus benefits the SEC and Big Ten (and their institutions which represent the majority of CFB fans) though. They have no interest in competitors getting stable and stronger
