Mack would be a great choice. Keep Saban on Gameday.

NS is a great choice but I doubt he gives up his comfy life right now for a major headache. Same for Mack. Dabo would be a younger guy who might would take it.

Problem is really nothing can be done in college football without some federal legislation backing up the changes.

Good luck dealing with that.

It would be filled by somebody the collective schools' brass could get behind, probably one of the current commissioners or somebody like Danny White.

Saban wouldn’t be good because he’s very anti this new football landscape.

Yeah, they need to hire someone with a strong legal background and connections to DC not a football coach.

Why not both?

Fans and coaches need to stop thinking that someone from the sports realm is going to come to the rescue and change things back to the way they used to be. They are not ever going back to the way they used to be because these changes were not driven by people concerned about sports or programs or coaches and especially not about the fans, and unfortunately they are driving the car right now.

This is exactly why he would be good.

This would have been the perfect job for Mike Leach

That's just it, nobody is driving the car. The Supreme Court sniped the driver of the car with the way they ruled in a few cases and the car has been careening down the highway, out of control, ever since.

The only way this gets back under control is through an act of Congress or to make all NCAA athletes employees and collectively bargain some rules. Until then it is open transfer and unlimited NIL, a recipe for disaster.

So what would Commissioner Nick Saban do when any attempt to change the present landscape is ultimately shot down, probably by a unanimous 9-0 margin, by the US Supreme Court as an interference with interstate commerce and restraint of trade violation? Say no? No, he’d say “Yes sir” and do what he was told.

Bullseye, you get it, but too many fans think it can be taken back to the old days where players were willing to perform for their entertainment for tuition, room and board and the glory of wearing a jersey, without getting a cut of the real pie.

Those days are gone forever, mic drop.

It’s going to take a crash and multiple big name programs closing up shop. It won’t be Alabama, Ohio State or Michigan but programs like Michigan State, UCLA, Washington. Programs that size shutting down is what it’s going to take for some type of legislation to be put in place that isn’t just uncapped free agency

help come up with a way to legally reel this shitshow in.

no other league has just rampant unrestricted free agency with no check/ balances on spending.

so there is absolutely a legal way to get this under control.
that may mean "unionizing" the players somehow, but it can be done.

I think you get it too.

But how many fans, including a bunch of people on this board, are going to recoil like Dracula from garlic or a crucifix to the notion of unionizing players.

There is a way to end the madness.

But there is no way forward ... none ... even if it ends the madness that doesn't include the players getting a piece of the real pie. If people accept that, stop wanting to go back to kids playing for tuition, books, room and board and liking it, maybe we can make some progress at ending the madness.
