Michigan State University has settled hundreds of lawsuits filed against it by the survivors of Larry Nassar's sexual assaults.
The settlement will cost the school at least $500 million.
Attorney James White, who represents dozens of women who sued the university, confirmed the settlement.

Does anyone think this is affecting Michigan State?
I don’t think so.
The Michigan State people have been coming out of the woodworks in Chicago in support of the school and “show their pride.”
It’s like the Penn State situation all over again.

$500M is no joke. Who cares what the fans are doing, that's expected.

$1.6 mil each.
Hey it's me, a victim.

There’s a girl I’ve seen on a bus every once in awhile. I’ve seen her decked out in Michgan State gear and she has a card in her backpack that says Michigan’s state gymnastics
Either she’s a former gymnast or not and a victim or not, but I can’t help but feel one way or the other, it’s fricked up she’s still wearing that out in public.

That's some serious money.
I don't understand how higher ups could convince themselves that what was going on was OK. Maybe this large settlement will force other people in positions of leadership to be more aware of what is going on around them.

"There will be no confidentiality agreements or non-disclosure agreements attached to the settlement," according to a joint press release from the survivors and the university. "Additionally, the parties must act to address items necessary to finalize the agreement. The settlement applies to only Michigan State University and MSU individuals sued in the litigation. It does not address claims against USA gymnastics, the United States Olympic Committee, Bela and Martha Karolyi, Twistars, John Geddert or any other parties."
Important part.

After the attorneys get their cut and Uncle Sam, the victims will be lucky to get $400k. Sounds nice but not worth being mentally fricked up for the rest of your life.

How do these state schools support this? It's not like they have 500M sitting in a bank earmarked for this kind of stuff.
Anyone know? They have to borrow it?
"No really, no other sexual assaulting will take place. We're good for the money!"

You don't pay half a billion unless some real shady shite was going on. The state should step in and remove all FTE admins (maybe they did). And wtf is up with the BIG conference raping boys and women? Weird arse white people. Stay up north.

They've got $1.1B that's not legally earmarked for anything. They can borrow the money too. They had $2.9B in revenue last year. This is a major settlement, but they money is there. They'll just delay other projects.

As a public school, where exactly is this money coming from?
Endowment? State of Michigan taxpayers?

Look at the FUPA on that "officer".

MSU can’t just pull the money from the endowment. Not how it works.

Tuition and state aid. The state says they won't pay for it, but they'll obviously give MSU aid like normal. That will allow MSU to divert funds to refill their coffers.
ETA - they'll probably issue debt to pay for this as a lump sum.
