Listen to his story of how he was actually hired, and it's impressive. He gets bashed but the bottom line is, without him you and all of the other armchair experts couldn't name 40 players in the draft.

wouldn't be hard at all. alabama and lsu produce 25 easily. throw in the rest of the All SEC team. bam 40 players named.

I’ve heard him tell his story on the podcast before. Basically he founded draft coverage. I both hate and love him for it because it’s providing content and interesting things to listen too in the off-season, but it’s simply his opinions and gossip and that’s why I hate him.

You couldn't name the other 15 without a list. You wouldn't have any idea of where the bama and LSU players are ranked. Hate him all you want ,he knows more than fans who read draft list and websites looking at rankings.

He is certainly the first to go mainstream via ESPN. However, Joel Buchsbaum is the true godfather of all NFL draftniks. He did it at a time when there was no interwebs. He coined the phrase, "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane".

Yep. I’ve always said that here when people bash guys like him. Some people here think he’s useless, but the only reason we have any clue about players and where they may go in the draft is because of the work done by guys like Mel Kuiper.

Some people here go to ESPN and look at their rankings and read all of the info provided by Mel.. who actually did the work of watching film and grading these guys. Then they use his information and now think they’re experts, not even realizing they’d know absolutely nothing without Mel doing the original research.

Yep. And the same morons who bash guys like Mel shite on front office personnel for “reaching” on a player in the draft. All because a player was drafted higher than where he was mocked

The Kiper haters always crack me up. He’s probably the single biggest contributor to the NFL being fun and relevant during the offseason. And to the irony that others have pointed out ITT, cracks me up when ppl call him an idiot for shite like “dude has Forrest Lamp mocked in the 2nd round, no way he gets out the first,” oblivious to the fact they’d have no clue that Forrest Lamp was a real person if not for Kiper.

He eats a pumpkin pie with whipped cream (no crust) for breakfast every day. Eats crab cakes 5 times a week. And eats pizza by taking off all the cheese and adding mashed potatoes to it.

You mean you see his work once a year? Like he doesn’t just google player rankings the morning of the draft lol

I’m not even the biggest fan of him but without people like him we wouldn’t know 20 of the athletes coming out.

Also for y’all saying just look at the LSU and Bama coming out… LSU may have what 5 players getting drafted this year?

Dude helped make the nfl draft an event. I think it’s ok to disagree with what he says sometimes but also appreciate what he’s done for a league we all (to whatever extent) follow.
