To look away from Caleb Williams and ONLY blame Eberflus

I heard Ryan Clark say that the Caleb Williams was the only person who knew what was going on.

The truth is that Williams is a rookie QB, and Eberfaus should have made his decisions accordingly. The decision to not take a timeout was reasonable with a QB who is capable of managing that situation. Williams, as a rookie, was not.

Most NFL QBs would have managed that situation pretty easily.

You are spot on in this thread

Caleb acted like a rookie QB who made some mistakes

Eberflus acted like the worst head coach I’ve ever seen

There’s no comparison

The whole "rookie" thing doesn't fly here. A middle school QB has more awareness than that. It was an epic frick up by both guys.

Williams definitely shoulders some blame but it's the responsibility of the HC to coach him and simulate these situations in practice so that when they do happen in the game he knows what to do.

Eberflus bears ultimate responsibility. He is the HEAD COACH.

I agree with you…..my point is that the media is trying to shield Caleb from ANY blame

Idk why we are pretending that players are the prominent people calling timeouts, that almost always falls on the head coach to call them.

It wasn’t that Caleb needed to be the one to call a TO……he should have been able to execute a simple call to get them in FG range so the HC could call the TO for the FG.

There was plenty of time after the sack……he took ENTIRELY too much time at the LOS

At the end of the day he’s a rookie and the blame lays on the head coach that could’ve stepped in at any time. Pretty reasonable to not hold Williams that accountable at this point in his career. Had he been a 5 year vet, it would be a much different conversation

I wish coaches had people like you around to always make excuses for them. He’s a starting quarterback in the NFL. Have some accountability.

If this mistake happens at USC last season, Williams is roasted because he was an experienced QB.

It does happen this year, and Williams is coddled for being an inexperienced quarterback.

Hmmmmmm......

He had had plenty enough time to get off a play with enough time left over to call a timeout.

He just wasn’t able to handle the situation.

Guys, football isn't nuclear surgery. Quit excusing dumbass decisions and plays for situations these guys have faced literally since they were in peewee leagues as "rookie mistakes".

This! That was definitely a situation that a “generational talent” should have been able to handle

I would have picked JD & Drake Maye ahead of Caleb Williams & his black fingernail paint.

He did say after the game that he’s a rookie and isn’t going to be the one to call a TO in that situation which I agree with.

A player with a cutthroat instinct to win and achieve greatness is calling the TO every time. Williams is not that guy. Anything above 1 career Super Bowl win is extremely unlikely for him. He’s very passive and will be satisfied with the life of luxury he can now afford, and especially after he signs his second contract after his rookie deal

Of course that RACIST idiot would say that

FIFY

If Williams were white or the head coach black, Clark would have a very different opinion.
