To look away from Caleb Williams and ONLY blame Eberflus. Eberflus is definitely terrible……..but Williams bears A TON of responsibility for that shitshow on the last play

I never understood why he was rated so highly by NFL scouts. I'm biased but JD was always gonna be the best QB from the draft. I was never impressed with Williams

At the end of the day he’s a rookie and the blame lays on the head coach that could’ve stepped in at any time. Pretty reasonable to not hold Williams that accountable at this point in his career. Had he been a 5 year vet, it would be a much different conversation

Had this been Washington, there would be 8 threads on the rant calling for Dan Quinn’s job

Both of them deserve 100% of the blame. Either one of them could have prevented that frick up.

Williams definitely shoulders some blame but it's the responsibility of the HC to coach him and simulate these situations in practice so that when they do happen in the game he knows what to do.

Eberflus bears ultimate responsibility. He is the HEAD COACH.

He was living in a penthouse in LA while in college, I’m assuming making millions at USC. He’s been a professional athlete for years now.

Williams doesn’t come off as a leader of a franchise. He was spoiled before he came into the NFL.

Williams is def in the blame for the slow snap. He did say after the game that he’s a rookie and isn’t going to be the one to call a TO in that situation which I agree with.

quote:

Caleb Williams when asked whether calling a timeout late in the 4th Q is above his pay grade: “In that situation, I’m living with the call and letting coaches make that decision…maybe in the later years of my career (he may call a timeout himself), right now I get the call and I’m trying to lead my team to a win.”

He is a professional athlete getting paid millions.

Rookie is a title, but it doesn’t overrule professional. Both he and his coach should’ve called a timeout.

Playing in college and the NFL is a different animal, I don't care if you live in a penthouse suite or a studio apartment. The game is different at the pro level. It moves a lot faster. To put all of this on Williams is intellectually irresponsible.

CW fricked up for sure but a HC knowingly letting a rookie QB dangle in the wind and then coming out and saying he liked everything they did is far far worse. You should expect a rookie to screw up w/shite line that. A head coach though? Inexcusable. I’d put it more like 80/20 w/it always being more on the coach when a rookie makes a clock management error.

I’ve never played a single down of organized tackle football and I knew that they needed to either hurry up or take the timeout to stop the clock.

u act like williams has never had to run a 2 minute offense in college. its the same thing. he's not very bright, he went about that as nonchalant as one could, never in a hurry.

30 seconds is the exact same length in college and the NFL.

I thought he was the dark horse ROTY in the draft. I think his ceiling isn't super high, but Sean Payton is a top 5 coach and his background with QBs is a huge plus for Nix. I think Caleb still has more potential than Nix, but it matters where you get drafted to.

Payton likes a QB that's faced adversity. He said as much when interviewed about Nix. Him being punted around college football was great for his future development.

JD5 was still the best option in the draft and should have been first overall.

I'm talking about the speed of the game. You don't have as much time to process as you do in college and high school. The players are too fast and everything moves at a faster pace.

If you’d ever played a single down of football you’d know that it’s drilled into your head from day 1 that you do what the coach says and don’t deviate. It’s rare for a college QB to be allowed make their own calls at the line beyond counting how many guys are in the box to go run or pass so to expect a rookie to be ready to know when to take over and ignore the coach is a bit much when it’s not something many guys are prepared to do.

in the post game, he said this:

quote:

"We got lined up, got the play and then I made an adjustment because I saw the clock running down knowing that if we complete a ball inbounds or anything like that, we won't have time to kick a field goal or anything like that. So, I made an adjustment and knew Rome was either going to be one-on-one or he was going to beat the safety and be one-on-one there. Tried to give him a shot, we got the shot and missed."

It's like he doesn't even know what a timeout does.
