Watching that garbage game last night between the Eagles and the Falcons, it's clear to me that maybe the starters should play a bit more in preseason.

4th quarter, was actually a pretty good game and the teams seemed to be in rhythm by then.

If the fans hate preseason, and the players and coaches hate it, why do we even have it? Just let each team have a couple more scrimmages during camp. I'm sure the owners can find another revenue source for the money they would lose by not hosting preseason games.

Second half was solid. With the changes to the CBA, you just have to accept that the first couple weeks might be rough.

Pouring rain, wet field, hour delay, superbowl celebration.

Yes, the product is going to improve, but there was a dozen reasons that both teams could have come out sluggish.

It's one game. What if the other 30 teams come out and play good football? But we got to get our hot takes in.

Opening weekend football has gotten progressively worse the last few years. This year, a number of teams basically sat out the pre-season (Rams, esepcially). I'm willing to wait until after the weekend to pass more judgement, but I have a feeling this weekend's games are going to be sloppy as well.

None of which cause 2 dozen penalties.

I'm sure they will, but even if they play in the preseason they'd still improve through the regular season because no team is going to show anything whether the starters play or not.

There's just a lot going on with this issue. Players aren't going to want to take more snaps with their already limited shelf life and teams don't want to have more guys get hurt. Make it through September 2-2 and get the guys going is the goal.

Not directly, but lost focus and mental letdown of the delay and semantics of the celebration can affect that indirectly. That and it can be on the refs. They can throw as many flags as they want to.

Look, I'm not disagreeing it was bad, because it was, and both teams will get better. All I'm saying is it wasn't like both teams didn't have a lot of other shite going on that could have and I think did affect the game.

To me, it's an issue of unit cohesiveness and timing. I think that's where the breakdowns were last night in the game. It't not the playbook execution per se.

Which is why I think maybe we should just do away with preseason. If it's not going to serve the intended purpose of preparing guys for the regular season, what is the point. Coaches always say when the are deciding who makes the team, practices are more important anyways.

Training camp used to be when players got into shape. Now, players train and stay in shape year round. So training camp isn't what it used to be either.

It's as if some of you forgot that the first month of the season has always been like this. The teams have to gel together. It isn't an instant deal.

I don't recall it being this bad. At all. Seems like it's getting worse.
