Matt Campbell may have lingered too long at Iowa State

The loss to ULL may just be an anomaly but is likely further evidence that it’s best not to hang around a lower level team for too long.

Campbell has had numerous opportunities to leave. It’s very difficult to maintain continued success at a middling program. Winning is always tenuous.

Napier needs to leave ULL soon or he may become a similar victim.

Lots of Ohio State fans wanted him to replace Urban over Ryan Day.

Iowa State has only been ranked preseason 3 times in school history, 1978 and the past two seasons.

“Pre” season.

They won’t be ranked again this year, that’s for sure.

He def did. These guys need to realize how fleeting their popularity is. He made a big mistake but he’s getting paid.

That's nice but they went backwards last year and not off to a promising start this season.

He was the "chosen one" according to many on this board.

He'll probably still end up going something like 8-5 which is about his ceiling at Iowa State.

I think he's a good coach but not the next big thing that the top programs should be throwing all kinds of money at.

he might have 5 losses this season, but it's going to be tough to get to 8 wins.

Agreed...Good coach, but not a “Top10 job” coach IMO

Damn, I keep forgetting that teams aren't playing a full schedule. This shite got me all confused.

Meh, not really. Iowa State has had some stinkers since Campbell has been there. Lost to UNI, struggled at home against Akron, needed OT to beat Drake, and he can't beat Iowa.

His stock wasn't held down by those games before, and ULL isn't even a bad team. I don't think Campbell is a victim of anything yet.

Is it true that they don’t have a special teams coach?

All the more reason why he should have already left. Seeing the score today, I assumed he already had. He could always go get paid, failed, and settled back in at another Iowa State type job. But with a lot more millions to retire on. Unless he’s an ISU grad or something and didn’t want to leave for that reason.

They'll still go 6-3 in the Big XII so no worries

Tough to pull off with a 10 game schedule. They thought after having 4 very close congerence losses ( less than 3 pts) yhey were ready to make a run at OU. Should have taken off when he had the chance.

He's taken Iowa State to 3 straight bowls after they went 3-9 basically every year. He isn't recruiting too many guys above 3 stars. He's done more with less than almost anyone. He will get a top job one of these years.
