The NFL pays for up to 150 rings for the Super Bowl Champion.

And then the owner can pay for more.

The NBA is different but NFL teams don't believe you have to play huge minutes in a game to get a ring. The entire organization gets a ring.

So if towel boy is getting one it doesn't make sense that an NBA player who was on the court doesn't take his. If you don't want to wear it don't wear it but it's a symbol that you were on that team.

If he doesn't want he doesn't want it. It seems a bit silly, though. I mean, the guy went through countless practices and was there with the team.

I believe if you practiced with the team then you absolutely contributed and deserve a ring.

It's his. He was on the team. It is an odd thing to put out there. It is worth a ton of money. It's kind of a slap in the face to people out there, that he can leave something worth so much and not care. Ron Artest auctioned off his ring for 500K and gave it to charity. Not saying Barnes would get anything like that, but it's a better option than not picking it up. What are the Warriors supposed to do with it?

If I was the last man on the bench and went to practice every day and was on the roster all throughout the season and playoffs, I’d show my ring to anyone who would look at it.

Being a good teammate is a big deal...and he had a great rep as a teammate. It had to be something else besides that injury. Injuries happen. Getting hurt and being physically unable to contribute the way you want doesn’t mean you didn’t work hard. I mean, even if he didn’t get hurt, his contribution wasn’t going to make the difference.

He must be a shite teammate that doesnt work hard in practice and make his teammates better

He must be a shite teammate that doesnt fight for everything in the limited minutes he gets. This tells me is a bitch, not honorable

Unrelated to this but I like Matt Barnes on TV much more than I thought I would. I hope he keeps his spot.

I mean I get what he's saying, but just taking a look at the stat, he spent all of 20 games with the Warriors after being traded away from from Sacramento.

In the 20 games he played during the regular season, he played about 20 mpg. At 37 years old for a guy who has never been a star player, that is nothing to hang his head about.

He's been in the league since 2002. He was the guy who infamously couldn't make Kobe flinch. He joined the Lakers the year after they won their 2nd championship in 2010. Then he was on those Lob City Clippers teams that choked in the playoffs. I think he's earned the right to be able to wear his ring with pride, but to each his own.

Taking it would be dishonorable.

If he thought he wasn't earning it being on that team why the hell would he have signed with them in the first place? The Warriors were by far the odds on favorite to win the title so it's not like he joined a afterthought of a 6 seed that had some magical run. He was a late season signing to a team that had just been to back to back NBA finals, winning one and losing the other in 7 games after being up 3-1, and had added Kevin Durant to an already monster squad.

He was never going to get big minutes once Durant got healthy. He was always going to be a spot minutes guy at best with a healthy roster and he still played 12 of their 17 playoff games. Did he think Durant was done for the season? Did he think he was going to be more than a back end bench player once Durant got back? Durant played 39.8 mpg in those NBA Finals. Even if Barnes had been fully healthy he wasn't taking those minutes away from from any of their starters.

He sounds like a fricking idiot who thought he was going to be far more important to a team that flat out didn't ever need him in the first place.

Money?

And I don't see why this is virtue signaling. He said it as part of a 1 hour long interview. Not like he's going around volunteering this information to anyone that'll listen. That's just the way he felt about it and I'm sure others have felt the same way in the past.

I respect the sentiment but he still earned the ring

Maybe not the right to call himself a champion based on his own assertion but he earned the ring
