It was unreal. I’ll never forget it. What a spectacle.

Absolutely the most surreal sports moment of the 21st century thus far.

fricking Jim Gray!!! The Forrest Gump of modern sports... I completely forgot he was there.

Walton said it best... This is the low point in the history of the NBA. The fact that Artest did not get banned for life for this is simply the most stunning thing in retrospect. This was the biggest story in the country for weeks.

I love the post game show analysts essentially saying it's all the fans faults... Yes, they acted disgustingly, but the players can't physically attack a fan for throwing a beer at him... Hell doesn't worse than this happen every time the USA plays at Mexico City in soccer?

Don't know what's more shocking - watching that clip (even now) or thinking how that's been 13 years.

I'm not excusing it but had Artest gone after the right guy, I'd understand it and be a good bit more forgiving.

But swinging at that poor dude who wasn't throwing the beer, while funny as shite after the fact that he wasn't injured, was just entirely unacceptable.

Everyone forgets that the most dangerous moment in all that was the punch Jermaine O'Neal landed on a fan near the bench. He got a running started and threw his whole weight into a punch that landed squarely on the fan's jaw. He could have easily suffered massive head trauma.

Homeboy got his money's worth that night

I love that Artest thought there was a possibility he might not even get fined:

I was always surprised he only got 25 games, that punch was by far the most malicious moment of the brawl.

Also thought it was odd they suspend guys like Reggie Miller who literally only left the bench to keep Artest and Jackson from killing someone.
