Mac Jones, Penei Sewell, and the possible death of Draftniks

So one thing I was thinking about while reading a few mocks last night is that the "draftnik community" absolutely refuses to believe that Jones could ever possibly go at 3 to SF. Most mocks have him tumbling to around pick 10, I supposed as some sort of "frick you" to the belief that NFL front offices seem to really differ in opinion about Jones.
On a similar note, the media and draft industry seem to have pumped up Penei Sewell as basically a more athletic Joe Thomas. If this were true, he would never go past 4 and likely would go 2 (because after Lawrence, the QBs aren't nearly as elite as they're being pushed by the industry). He has some serious red flags (arm length for one) and may tumble past 6 or 7 in the draft. Lots of message board posters are convinced of things like the Bengals ONLY logical option is Sewell because...guys less experienced than Mel Kiper said so for a year.
So, if Jones does go 3 and Sewell does fall in the draft, does this do severe damage to the draft industry? Like with all other niche areas, the amount of draft content has exploded with a major increase in "experts". However, if they are, almost unanimously, this wrong about 2 guys compared to the NFL, doesn't that do irreparable damage for the current content creators? This is Mel Kiper being wrong about Clausen, but across an entire industry. Is the group think that bad, where it's largely an echo chamber now created by the loudest guys 2 years before the actual draft? Has the NFL developed new analytics that surpass anything that these creators could even hope to comprehend?

NFL draft coverage comes and goes on the minds of people. No one will remember any of this in a few months that well so I doubt it’s going to crash the industry

Everyone rips off others and adds a tiny bit of personal flair. Most of its free. You have high school kids posting equitable content to veteran journalists. They’re not going to be losing subscribers for being wrong. I’ve seen plenty of mocks with Jones at 3 and plenty with Sewell falling. So I’m not really sure what the big deal is here,

How so?
I mean, the whole point of them is to get clicks - it really doesn't matter if they're right or not.
If they are, then people will click on the site and everyone will say how awesome they are.
If they aren't, then people will click on the site and say how stupid they are.
Win/Win scenario.
Kiper is a douche and he's had a steady job since George Blanda roamed the Earth.

The entire industry is wrong about people every single year.
Jawaan Taylor in 2019 was the 9th guy off the board according to 247 and 13th according to Chad Reuter. He went 35th in the second round.

Very true, especially all the espn pundits. They seem insulted that it's even being mentioned. I still believe he goes third to the 49ers.

I think you underestimate the level that teams use Kiper and mcshay et al to plant fake stories and create false narratives
kiper and mcshay just want clicks, and none of the info really matters because it is all speculation

No, unless there's some morons are around who believed predraft coverage was 100% correct.

I think the conflation of where a guy will be drafted and where a guy should be drafted makes this conversation impossible to have.
I don't care that someone finds out the Giants LOVE Daniel Jones. I care that someone evaluates Jones, and makes a strong case for why he is a better player than Duane Haskins. Jones going before Haskins doesn't necessarily tell me anything other than Kiper has a source. Haskins sucking it up does tell me something.

@ Mac being taken at 3. But Shanny is arrogant enough to do it.
It's his arse on the line.

People get excited about the draft and consume content they know is just projection, most of these guys admit they only get a few picks right

The only team I see Mac Jones being a perfect fit for is the Patriots. Shanahan isn't really a bright individual so I can see Belichick getting Jones at 7.

I was listening to ESPNU Sunday morning show yesterday. They brought up Mac and Zach Wilson. The question was if Mac played for BYU and Wilson played for Bama last year how would that have played out.
Consensus was Zach would have won the Natty, would be drafted just as high and Mac probably doesn’t do as well with lesser talent and wouldn’t even sniff a 1rst rd grade.

Thats what happens when there’s a scramble at the top of the draft for QBs. There’s enough questions and unknowns about the four behind Lawrence to second guess and criticize a team for picking any one them in the top 5.
In a draft with 4 or 5 QBs projected to go in the top 10, a freak like Pitts, and teams salivating over Ja’Marr, then it’s entirely possible Sewell could fall.
There will be a lot of quality OTs available in Rounds 2-3. Teams could pass on Sewell at the top of the 1st, and still grab a starting OT on day 2.

Jimmy Clausen should have been the death knell for Mel Kiper.
