So basically all that comes of this is Odell is banned for 2 years. I mean LSU is already big time short on scholarships.

Not necessarily. These are the self imposed sanctions. The NCAA can add to this. Vacated wins are likely (this doesn't matter, but the NCAA loves to do it) and postseason bans aren't out of the question.
The latter is a program killer because it effectively neuters you in recruiting.

depends if the NCAA gets involved or not

NCAA is toothless. This is about the worse that will happen.

I wonder how much Korey Foreman is going for this year...

They could add additional scholarships and a one year bowl ban. I'm actually surprised LSU didn't self-impose a ban this year, since the team isn't very good.

The money was payment from 2012 to 2017 for what the NCAA characterized as a “no-show job.”
Wow. John Paul Funes sounds like a worthless piece of shite.

Not if it gets lumped in IARP with basketball. This is LSU trying to keep that from happening

Reminds me a lot of USC situation

There is some nuance to this that is lost on some of the national media like Pat Forde and Dan Wolken.
Funes was paying a lot of people for no show jobs as a way to embezzle money. Incidentally, one of those people happened to have a son playing football at LSU. The payment was part of an ongoing scam, but not necessarily meant as a benefit to a student athlete.
LSU still needs to own up to it, because Funes was a booster and made the connections to the people he was paying through LSU. A lot of them were athletes or athletes' families well after their playing careers.
It seems like splitting hairs, but no one is paying $180k for an offensive guard recruit (and I think the payments only started after he was already here), and no one is paying $180k for a forgettable offensive guard.
I don't remember the numbers on what the relative actually kept (and those won't be reported by the clowns I mentioned earlier) but it's well short of what they were paid. The rest went back to Funes off the books.

Aggravated and standard Level 1 violations carry, at the very least, a one-year postseason ban.
If the NCAA wants to just go ahead and give LSU that ban this year to get this punishment over with, I don't think anyone will particularly mind

180k for an offensive lineman is excessive. Thats QB money.
