Why would you give up the first pick millions!

The 6-foot-6 Lawrence, considered the likely No. 1 pick in next spring's NFL draft, said he hasn't ruled out returning to Clemson for another year instead of going pro.

"My mindset has been that I'm going to move on," Lawrence said Tuesday. "But who knows? There's a lot of things that could happen."

Could be ATL which, for a #1 pick, could be MUCH worse.

Also could be the Bengals who will take an OT or trade out of it for a King's Ransom.

The Bengals are actually doing the right thing this year.

They're competitive, but not winning games.

I'd require 2 full drafts, all your picks for 2 full drafts to consider trading Lawrence. If you want him, give me 2 drafts.

If not, I'll keep him. He can only hold out so long, but he would report to the team that drafted him, even the Jets.

I would not sell low nor just not draft him if he said he wouldn't show up.

I guess the only caveat to that is if he doesn't sign with an agent, what is the rule there? IF you draft him and he goes back to college, you still keep his rights, correct?

He has to declare for the draft ahead of time and can't go back to college football even if he doesn't sign with an agent.

He won't turn down playing for the Vikings after they tank this season

Football (and basketball) aren't like baseball.

In those, once you declare, you have a certain period where you can change your mind and return (but it's before the draft, and if you sign with an agent you can't return).

I guess that's why neither you, nor I, are a GM. Nobody would make such an awful deal.

Gotcha, did not know that.

So if, say, the JEts draft him and refuses to report, how long do the Jets keep his rights?

I believe one full year, then they get a compensatory pick.

Ok, then I take it alllllll back.

I'd probably still draft him unless there's another sure fire big time dude, but I'd still draft Lawrence with intent to trade or more likely, trade pre-draft.

Way too risky as he certainly could sit out that 1 year. Would be hilarious if he did and NYJ got the #1 pick again.

The jets organization is in shambles, no doubt. Lawrence looks like he has the tangibles to be a franchise changing QB and live in the NYC area (assuming he lives in Hoboken like Eli did). Would be hard for me passing up an opportunity being a millionaire with only a short train ride away to Manhattan.

And lose 62% of his money made at home games to taxes.

Why would TL want to go to a team that kills young QB careers and live in a state that the taxes are insane?

Eff that.

Are New Jersey income taxes high compared to the rest of the nfl cities?
