Tons of cancellations and rescheduled games. The good news is it appears the oldest rivalry in the state will be played this weekend.

Homer & Haynesville will meet again just like they have every year since 1907.

The schools have combined for 20 state championships. The rivalry has always been fierce, but the hatred really started in the 1920’s and 30’s when the two small towns were both routinely winning championships against the biggest schools in the state.

The most notable game was the 1971 Class 2A state championship. The schools had only allowed a combined 6 points in the playoffs. Both had shutout their quarterfinal and semifinal opponents.

The game ended in a 7-7 tie. No overtime in those days, so Haynesville won the tiebreaker because they had more first downs.

This is a stressful time for us high school coaches. We are sitting at 6-1 and top 10 in the state in 3A and have our home coming game this week. We are praying we can get into the playoffs without the covid bug getting us.

What happens if JBE announces a return to Phase 2 during his 2:30 PC? Can the playoffs continue on?

The high schools said they could play during phase 2 when they announced that they were starting the season, so I’m sure they will continue to play if we revert back to phase 2.

John Curtis-Brother Martin showdown to air Friday on CST, Crescent City Sports

November 19, 2020
By Lenny Vangilder

The District 9-5A title is at stake Friday night at Strawberry Stadium in Hammond when John Curtis Christian and Brother Martin meet in a game that will be broadcast live by Cox Sports Television and Crescent City Sports.

Coverage begins at 7 p.m. CT, with Ken Berthelot and Wayde Keiser describing the action. It will air live on CST and will stream live at CrescentCitySports.com. A re-broadcast of the game will air on CST at 4 p.m. Sunday as well as on-demand on CCS.

Brother Martin (6-0, 3-0) is not only the top-ranked team in the Crescent City Sports and Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 5A rankings, but sits at No. 1 in the latest unofficial LHSAA power rankings in Division I. John Curtis (4-3, 3-1) – whose losses this season are all to defending state champions – is ranked sixth in Class 5A by the LSWA and ninth by Crescent City Sports.

I hope so, CHS has a nice band. Plus they will be on the visitor's side, playing toward this direction.
