If select schools would quit recruiting just to win a high school game, maybe this split wouldn’t be an issue.

It's cute, he thinks publics don't recruit!

This is really sad news to hear. You can’t match the magic of the Superdome compared to any other venue in LA, I’m sorry.

It wasn't just game times that pissed off coaches/ADs, it was the payouts too. Schools across the board were making more at their semi-final games than they were at the Prep Classic.

I said ULL b/c I've heard that ULL is basically handing the selects the keys to Cajun Field at no charge... don't know what Tulane & SELA are offering to them

Whichever one will sell beer I’m down with.

Yeah, I don't see how this isn't going to end up at ULL. It's a 2-horse race right now between Yulman and ULL; I don't really see Strawberry Stadium as a real contender. ULL seems to be better situated for all areas of the state.

And, no matter where it ends up, I think you'll see pretty large crowds this year and maybe next year. Once the novelty wears off, there will probably be a slight attendance drop off in following years.

frick the “select” schools. The fact that 0-10 teams can get a playoff birth is laughable.

blaming the wrong side here

Yep. Publics are fine. Even if they lose the Dome the still be fine. The split really hasn't hurt either side but gives a lot more teams a fighting chance.

There's such a SELA myopia on this board. They can't conceive of the fact that the rest of the state couldn't give two shits about Catholic, Jesuit, or whomever.

This is a fact....but honestly CHS doesn't have that same thought as the NOLA schools do

As much as I would love it to be here, I think official capacity as is is around 7500 without trying to add in temporary bleachers. No way that is enough seating for the bigger schools. It has to be ULL if not the Dome.

For a while, I thought Bonine and a majority of the EC was starting to think that the select/non-select thing needed to end.

And then they do crap like give the select schools crappy times.

Maybe Bonine only wants to see it end because more brackets means more work for the LHSAA staff.

I really don't think there are the votes among the rank and file staff, to end it, anyways.

Playing select champ game doubleheaders on a Fri and Sat evening will bring in enough money to make it work.

1. Some do.. some don't Bonine does
2. Bonine wants it to end because it is detrimental in the long run.
3. With some changes to the structure there are, but when less than 1/4 of the surveys the LHSAA sent out to coaches, principals and ADs don't even get opened....

4. bring in enough money to make it work where - not the superdome.. the dome does not work without corp sponsors...

If I had to wager, it's gonna be cajun field. for several reasons.... although last time a title game was at strawberry it was pretty festive....

The major concern from the selects is the ridiculous playoff schedules for all sports.
With not enough schools in Select, the number of byes and the length of the season staying in line with the non selects was ridiculous.

Football teams were having 2/3 weeks off before first playoff game until selects staggered the byes before and after semifinal leading up to the Dome Classic.

Basketball teams were sitting for almost two weeks before beginning their playoffs to stay on schedule for the basketball tournament all at one location.

Baseball teams had almost two weeks off before baseball playoffs started. Last year with baseball tourney the rainouts backed games up and even though they have multiple fields teams drove to Sulphur and back unnecessary times.

I know for basketball, the concern was also that players that could play baseball or other sports as well ended up missing a lot more of the baseball season but it was wasted time because selects could wrap their basketball seasons up a lot sooner than the non selects. So why wait? Have their own tourney and be done with it.

If ULL is willing to let teams use their facilities for free that's a no brainer plus it's more central for all the teams. Only bad thing is weather impacting the football championships but you play in bad weather in November anyway.

some teams don't start their playoffs "runs" until the semifinals

they're already in the Top 28 without playing 1 playoff game

the selects decided they were not going to subsidize everyone playing in the Dome and get crummy game times in return

there will continue to be a fundamental misunderstanding of the real problems as long as people in North LA continue to use their local examples of community schools, firm attendance zones, and clear cut enrollment protocols as the imaginary standard for the rest of the state.

The simple fact that magnet and charter schools compete in the public school classifications tells you the public side doesnt really know WTF they are doing.

All they have done is trade one master for another. Would have been better to split the state geographically and have an NORLA and a SOLA Association then have the champs of each play each other at the end. Would have made more sense than splitting by public and private/select.

You make good points, especially reminding us that more than the Prep Classic in the Superdome is at stake here.

Only lightning or a torrential flood like we see now in Texas would negatively affect Cajun Field, right? I believe they have field turf, so the field should be a non-issue.

How is any system where 0-10 teams make the playoff a win?

Likewise how is a 6 team playoff a win?

I played at walker high and now coach at a public school. When I played we had to play Catholic High in district and often played Park View and private schools and we never had a chance against school who can recruit. In addition, those said private schools always thought that their shite didn't stink and thought that they were better than all the public schools.

I say F the private schools. if 0-10 teams making the playoffs are a problem, then start more private schools. The split is good for both sides, you play your kind and we will play ours. It is the only way it is even close to being fair.

Every school can recruit. You just seem bitter about private schools.
