None, the player can opt out of season beforehand like Neil Farrel did

That’s not really how it works.

Probably not that much. There’a a big assumption of the risk/comparative fault and causation hurdle to clear. The player would have very little chance success on the merits so the only question is how much would the university settle for.

It kind of is: the opt-out option would be a huge factor in an assumption of the risk type defense. Same logic as barring spectators at golf/baseball events from recovering if they get rocked by a foul ball or wayward tee shot

The odds of a fit 20 something dying from Covid is about the same as fricking asteroid falling out of the sky and hitting a player during the game

Yet it just happened in the last couple of weeks right here in Louisiana. 19 year old former high school football player.

The schools have helped themselves greatly from a liability standpoint by honoring scholarships of people that choose to opt out.
Now of course that's not the end of it, but that's going less ammo that the other lawyers will have.

How much would a family get if a player died without covid?

That's probably where you should start your search.

All the fat linemen would run circles around your arse, they’re in great cardiovascular condition.

Obesity is still obesity. Covid doesn't give a shite what kind of fat arse you are. Half of them are probably pre-diabetic and sleep with CPAPs.

Results:
Of the 70 athletes, 34 were identified as having metabolic syndrome according to measures of blood pressure, waist circumference, fasting glucose, high-density lipoprotein, and triglycerides. The mean total cholesterol-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio for the group was 4.95, with 32 participants displaying values higher than 5.0. Twelve volunteers had total cholesterol levels greater than 200 mmol/L, 15 had high levels of C-reactive protein, and 9 had slightly elevated levels of glycosylated hemoglobin.

Conclusions:
Although athletes might be assumed to be protected from risks of cardiovascular disease, we found a high incidence of metabolic syndrome and other associated adverse biomarkers for heart disease in collegiate football linemen. Early screening, awareness, and intervention may have favorable effects on the overall health outcomes of football linemen.
