You laugh, but this is legit. Canadian scouts don't take southern kids seriously, no matter how good or talented they may be. There have been no shortage of talent in GA, NC, TX and FL in recent years, but they don't get legitimate looks unless they're related to former players.
Kids in AZ have gotten some opportunities (Matthews, for one), in no small part because a lot of former NHLers live and coach leagues in the Valley. Somehow, that gives those kids more credence when being scouted.
