If Rip would of stayed on the Wizards he would of averaged 25 ppg in his prime

His offensive was improved but his decline in defense was more pronounced.

There wasn't a decline in his defense. In 1992-93 his Defensive Win Share was 8.0 and in 1993-94 it was 7.9, the second and third best of his career. Don't tell me you're only looking at his blocked shots averages?

To add to that, his overall Win Shares for those two seasons were 15.8 and 14.3 respectively, BY FAR the best of his career.

He was a marginally more efficient shooter from the field, not from the free throw line though.

Better FG%, TS% (or total shooting %, if you will) and eFG%. Better across the board.

quote:

PER doesn't measure defensive performance.

Defensive statistics are factored in. Which should matter to you since you're only using blocked shots to measure his defensive prowess.

quote:

That's also when Jordan was out of the league and he had his best supporting casts.

Jordan has absolutely nothing to do with this. They were in different conferences.

quote:

You're wrong about this. There's more to the game than PER.

You're an idiot, Gamecock, as usual. I've actually watched his games and statistics back me up.

Oh, and for good measure, Hakeem won Defensive Player of the Year in 1992-93 and 1993-94.

Yes there was. Check the Defensive Ratings out. His Win Shares went up because his Usage % went up.

Like I said, he was a marginally better shooter from the field (a massive 2% difference) but wasn't as good from the line (again a small decline).

Steals and Blocks only tell part of the story. You know this. Defensive Rating is what you have to look at.

Wrong again, but par for course for you.

Jordan has absolutely nothing to do with this.

You serious Clark?

Well hell I'm sure Jordan had nothing to do with Malone, Stockton, Barkley, Mullin, etc. never winning a title either, because you know, other conference and all.

I've actually watched his games

I watched them when they happened.

quote:

statistics back me up.

Sure, if you only look at PPG and PER (the latter of which heavily depends on the former).

2011 Mavs gets my vote as the most remarkable playoff run/championship of all time.

That team was going only far as Dirk took them, and they beat some damn good teams in the process.

When the 2nd best player on a championship team is a toss up between Jason Terry and Tyson Chandler...wow. Dirk is the man.

The Mavs run in 2011 is being massively overrated the team was 55-18 in games Dirk played in. The only reason they weren't one of the favorites going in to the playoffs is because they are good every year and people like to hype up new teams. They aren't even one of the top 5 least talented teams

Did you miss where I said his prime was 88-93 or are you just plain stupid kid?

His best overall and defensive season was 89-90: He had a career high in RPG (led the league with 14.0), had the most BPG of his career (again led the league with 4.6), and had his best year as a defender (led the league in defensive rating and defensive win shares). For whatever reason, the voters gave DPOY to Rodman when he wasn't even in the top 5 in DR or DWS.

As for The Dream winning DPOY in 93-93/93-94, he wasn't the best defender at his position in either of those seasons - Ewing was.

Oh, 95 and 96 as opposed to 93? A marginal decline in one category. Great point.

If only it were that simple. Again, 95 and 96 as opposed to 93? A marginal decline in one category. Great point.

WTF does that have to do with what Hakeem did or didn't accomplish in 1990?

I watched them when they happened.

No you didn't.

No, you idiot. I already posted his defensive stats and accomplishments.

The 94-95 Rockets were 47-35 and the 6th seed in the West. Their two best players were past their primes, granted both were HOFers.

Damn, an old, past his prime Hakeem still found a way to drop 33 and 12 on a young, uber-athletic Shaq. Interesting.....

But he declined in 1994, when he won DPOY, MVP and led his team to the championship as its only superstar, and the year before (1995) he posted the second best PER of his career.

Why do you even bother? ANYONE who actually watched the game knows that his prime was in the mid-90s. This kid probably wasn't even old enough to watch those years and is going only off of stats....and still making a shitty argument!

Like I said, his decline in defense was greater than his offensive improvement. But you are too stupid to understand that.

It is that simple. The lower the number, the better the defender.

quote:

WTF does that have to do with what Hakeem did or didn't accomplish in 1990?

Who said anything about 90? You were talking about when he won titles. He only won those titles when Jordan was out of the league. You then said it didn't matter like a fool.

quote:

No you didn't.

This is where you wave your white flag because you know you are wrong.

quote:

No, you idiot. I already posted his defensive stats and accomplishments.

And his defensive stats were worse after he turned 30. How are you this stupid? He was out of his prime when he won those titles - which he only won because Jordan was out of the league.

Hell what next? Dirk was in his prime in 2010-2011 because that's when he won his title? Mitch Richmond was in his prime in 2002 when he won a title with the Lakers? Hell Shaq and Gary Payton won a title for the Heat in 2006, were they in their primes then too?

Idiot. Be gone.

It drives me crazy when people use these advanced metrics to say how good or bad a certain player was each year when they didn't even see them play.

He wasn't the best defender that year and his defense wasn't as good as it was before. How is this so hard for you to understand?

MVP

Cool. He wasn't the best player at his position in the league.

He had a great supporting cast.

PER is nothing but a offensive stat.

You are a fool. Loud one at that.

Either way, you can frick off now.

You still running your trap? Shaq thoroughly outplayed Hakeem in those Finals. Drexler and company were the difference in those Finals. Me and several others have already educated your ignorant arse on this.

That's all well and good, but I did see Hakeem play. Behind Jordan and Shaq, he was my favorite player to watch. Dream Shake

If you catch me talking about the ABA or any basketball before like '85, then please feel free to say something.

No, you got schooled in that thread and *gasp* you are getting schooled in this thread. Pretty funny, actually. How old are you, 12?
