So he should get to 3 before the year is over. If gabbert has the best end of the season ever, he could get to 2

Could've been the second best receiver if he had a consistently good quarterback.

It's amazing he's been able to get where he is with the QB's he's had to play with.

No kidding.

One of the few untouchable sports stats out there.

He has a whole half career more yards.

It is as if he just ran back and forth on the field for 4 quarters without getting tackled.

DISCLAIMER: I am in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM saying that Jerry Rice is NOT the GOAT.

That out of the way...

I hate stats like that.

Average yardage per season or per game is a much better stat to look at than a longevity award.

Your point is valid given the increase from 12 to 14 to 16 game seasons.

That's why I consider Jim Brown the greatest running back of all time. He did his 10,000 years in only nine seasons with 12 games (later 14) per season.

It's valid for 2-7. Rice's total yardage is so far ahead that by default, you know the other numbers are good.

Interestingly enough, Rice should have 1,000 more yards, but only had 78 yards in the 1997 season.

He had 1,000 yards when he was 40 years old

I agree with you mostly, but a huge part of his greatness was his longevity. Also, if you look up the receiving yards per game leaders it's littered with current players, which is a sign of the modern game. Rice is 10th on that list.

Interestingly, in the top 10 of all time yardage-receivers, the only player with more yards per game is Marvin Harrison. He only played 13 seasons compared to Rice's 20.

Is that list poised to look a lot different in 5-10 years or is it pretty solid? I'm a little surprised to not see a couple more newer guys on the list.

Can you imagine if he was in a consistently good passing offense with a hof qb for 14 years?

In his first 8, he had nobodies and Warner and still averaged 1200. Over the next 5, he averaged 950.

Give him a csp-brees combo or BB-Brady combo and he likely is at 2nd right now.

He was an extremely talented athlete, good locker room leader, and I think the way he's adjusted he could have broken rife if he has longevity

Imagine if he had a QB, who could actually throw the ball, in his career, more than the short stint with Warner.

Next 5 for sure. The next two active players on the list are Whitten and Brandon Marshall at 22 and 23. Both are 2000+ yards out of 10th place. Then Antonio Gates is at 33, 3000 yards out of 10th. All 3 are more than likely toward the end of their careers.
