Holy shite i had the exact same thought, but not just the calls with his mom...all of them

Most athletes and especially nfl players are legit stupid even the ones we think are “cerebral”, But he was literally retarded.

My main hesitance going in was whether the creators would make an attempt (or imply) to lay his behavior solely at the feet of CTE.

Big time they did this. Having borland and O’Callaghan who weren’t involved in any way, and every time they talked about his lack of a father figure not there to set him straight they would show pictures with him and urban, brady, kraft, belichick

Borland, o’callaghan and his high school boyfriend or quarterback came off as huge attention whores

This certainly isn't a stretch. There's plenty of folks that project a very different personality in public than they do in their home.

I didn't feel like they placed the blame on CTE

I think they were saying upbringing, CTE, overcompensating for being gay, and a society where athlete's can get away with shite combined to create Aaron Hernandez the murderer.

ETA: he was also a sociopath

I have a weird subgroup of people on my Facebook who are either talking about how hot Aaron Hernandez was or are more concerned that the doc called him gay instead of the whole he murdered people thing.

And way too many people who have no idea what they are talking about what to completely write off his troubles to CTE. They actually think CTE was a cause of him murdering people. Ridiculous.

Folks are odd. High profile serial killers (Manson, Bundy, etc) routinely received hundreds of love letters from the outside while in prison.

CTE and being a gay doesn’t even explain his behavior let alone excuse it. No CTE and straight as an arrow, he would’ve been in the same exact place.

Shitty home environment, lack of parental supervision at a critical age combined with the fact we let famous people get away with anything.

The dad who blamed drug laws for his getting in with the wrong crowd can go frick himself. He was blaming hernandez’s behavior on anything and anyone but him

Bundy also was a pretty shitty serial killer that was aided by the dumbest law enforcement officials of all time

Bundy took advantage of the LE structure by crossing state lines. A crime with no traceable motive committed by a complete stranger is difficult to solve today let alone back then without the forensic tools available to them. Not only that, it’s difficult to tie them together because they weren’t recovering most of the bodies and when they did it was in a state of extreme decomposition and there was no crime scene

Most serial killers or murderers in general are complete retards so when they got him they still weren’t convinced because he didn’t fit the norm. He was intelligent, well educated and charming. Too bad they didn’t waste him when they had him in Colorado

LE departments were told multiple times that he fit every description they had of him from the few times victims got away and they ignored it. Didn’t even look into him.

Then when they did catch him, they let him just walk out the door, TWICE and he killed more people the second time.

They got tons of tips. After he killed the 2 girls at the park they had a vehicle description, and a better description from multiple witnesses. Been a while since i read about him, but i remember shortly after that he bolted for utah. I doubt they did the best top notch job. It was unusual and difficult. Not something they had dealt with before.

Homicide investigators don’t guard the prison. Yes, that was incompetence. He shouldn’t have ever been allowed the opportunity. They have the blood of those sorority girls and that child on their hands.

The cop in florida who caught him should’ve done everyone a favor and put a bullet in him

As i recall the only one who got away was the girl in the colorado mall. All the witness descriptions in seattle before the park murders were “i saw a man x tall with brown hair it was dark”

They had nothing to go on for a while. Just missing girls and vague descriptions. No traceable motives, no bodies, etc. difficult task. Hard to say they did a shitty job

His girl field called multiple times and told them he had the name the 2 survivors mentioned, had the car he was driving during that attack (of which there was only 100 or so in the entire country of that model and color) and was in the area for the attacks.

They hung up on her.

I never specified the homicide investigators were the only incompetent ones. Just said LE officials.

Had he been in a county with any law enforcement with half a brain cell, it would’ve saved so many lives and no one would even know his name.

I just think the worship of him as some sort of criminal mastermind is so dumb.

They had his name, and the description of his brown bug vehicle in which they only had 100 or so of that make/model/color in the country, and even few in the area. And they had a tip telling them all this.

And he kept his kidnapping shite in his damn trunk. If they even tried to follow the lead, it would’ve been busted

No not a mastermind and there is a kind of sick reverence people have for him. But like i said most serial killers are legit retarded and still hard to catch. he was much smarter than other serial killers who leave detectives a crime scene, don’t plan, etc. certainly made it more difficult to even determine there was a serial murderer. His compulsion obviously grew beyond even his own control especially in florida. There’s a real frick it feel to the florida crimes.

He was completely insane though. Not some genius.
