Kicking deep and not squibbing the Bills last kick was the right call.

No time gets taken off the clock if the chiefs return man fair catches the squib and if down between the 25 and end zone the ball gets advanced to the 25.

So there is more risk for the Bills if they fair catch the squib ahead of the 25. In that situation the chiefs could have had the ball beyond the 25 with 13 seconds left.

Bills played the last kick off right.

I think people are arguing they should have kicked it on the ground, but that also has a risk. Clock doesn’t start until you touch it, and if an up guy falls on it, they probably have it with even better field position than the 25.

It wasn’t some god awful call like people are suggesting.

Should have kicked it in the air to the 5 yard line.

People are being overly critical of the Bills. This is one of those games where both teams deserved to win and only one could. We saw this back in 2018 with the Rams and Chiefs on MNF.

Then you have shithouse games between bottom 5 teams where they both look like terrible high school teams and they should both take a loss but someone has to get a win (or tie).

Worst call was leaving too much time for mahomes. 13 seconds was way too much

And?

You just fair catch it and the ball advances to the 25.

Isn’t that only in college?

Imagine the Bills looking at the clock with 13 seconds left saying that’s too much time.

I’m assuming the rule is the same in both college and NFL. If not, the Bills should have squibbed.

That's not an NFL rule.

I think in this particular instance you squib it and hope one of the defenders is dumb enough to try running around with it.

I agree that kicking it out of the end zone didn’t play a huge part in the outcome tho.

That’s my stance too. I think you squib it and hope for stupidity, it if Buffalo plays it right, it’s not a big deal and can actually backfire.

I think they should have pooched it to around the 10. (As I mentioned I think the NFL rule is that a fair catch is not advanced as it is in college) So if they fair catch, they have to go an additional 15 yards more than they would have on a touchback. Or if they attempt a runback it probably runs enough time off where they only have one play to get in FG range.

Between this and your OP, you have all the bases covered. Nice work.

The bottom line is you can’t let a team gain 45 yards in 10 seconds at the end of the game. That’s just inexcusable.

Well, I really did think the fair catch rule was the same in the NFL and college. At least I learned something.

They played defense as if the Chiefs had no timeouts. I still can't believe it
