I would be shocked if the NFL had some rule against drinking.
There were/are for people in the program. I remember Brett Favre talking about he a few beers during the offseason and was worried about getting caught.

They pee test for alcohol? Pretty sure the only "substance abuse" issues you can get with alcohol = DUIs. I would be shocked if the NFL had some rule against drinking.
It exists but is mainly used on guys who are problem cases.
Koren Robinson is the main guy I can think of who got a year-long suspension for alcohol and that was after a few DUIs.

No it doesnt mean he was tested.
Im pretty sure Blackmon was in the NFLs substance abuse program because he had issues in the past with alcohol. They have separate rules and regulations. And the NFL doesnt have some type of rule against drinking. But if youve been in trouble for alcohol already suspended multiple games and on probation, im sure they have some type of rules for those guys. And he was on probation. Could of just violated his probation and gotten into some type of trouble due to alcohol. Or could of been boozing a lot and the Jags knew about it and tried to get him to stop and he didnt, then notified the NFLs substance abuse program people.
We have 0 information right now as to what he really did. But the 1 common thing with all of Blackmons issues is alcohol.

That's what I figured. So the question is whether they get harsh on alcohol for non-alcohol offenders.
From PFT:
quote:
The eight-game suspension strongly suggests, based on the language of the substance-abuse policy, that the penalty was the result of a negotiation between the NFL and the NFLPA.
Blackmon, as we understand it, was in Stage 3 of the league’s substance-abuse program. Violation of the policy while in Stage Three ordinarily results in a banishment with the ability to re-apply after a calendar year. The union and/or Blackmon’s representatives apparently persuaded the league to trim the return date in half.

this is really going to hurt their playoff chances.

Is this where someone puts "Les Miles has lost control of players that played at his former employer?"

I guess in his case, it's practically a year-long suspension anyway since he's just barely back from the prior four-game suspension.
They may also be taking pity on the Jaguars since they're not likely to win a game until he comes back considering how dreadful they are on offense.

MJD might as well retire today

Seriously, how farking stupid does one person have to be in order to get an indefinite suspension by the NCAA and a 12-game suspension by the NFL within a three-year timeframe?

Being on the Jags offense I can't say I blame him for wanting to be high.

If my boss or employer said don't smoke weed and we will pay you 3 million a year, I wouldn't smoke weed
