How about cancel the playoffs and just play the bowl games?

Bet they'd be real popular and players wouldn't opt-out.

How does expanding the playoff make teams who already don’t belong in them more competitive?

No it would not. There have three competitive semifinals in six years. Why expand it to include more undeserving teams?

4 team playoff.

16 bowl games.

Zero conference tie-ins.

36 teams TOTAL make the postseason and it would actually mean something to play in a bowl game again.

No more Weedeater, Mayo, and Potato bowls. Get rid of all these clownshit bowls.

I never thought I’d say this, but there’s absolutely nothing that can make these players actually care about these bowl games anymore. This is a snowball turning into an avalanche at this point. These opt outs are going to become more and more frequent. People will stop going to bowl games as a result. Herbie will cry on TV, but it’s all in motion. Not only are we in route to an expanded playoff, but on the way to a 16 team playoff. Forget 8 teams or 12 teams, they will go the same route as the FCS, DII and DIII. Teams will host 1st and 2nd round games....then and ONLY then will bowl games come into play. I don’t like it, but it’s inevitable. Players opting out was the one thing I never thought would become popular. Bowl season is being rendered meaningless.

Looked like OU opted out vs LSU last year. Turns out it was just Joe Burrow.

They should go to the FCS model but keep the bowl names and locations once they start playoff play. It would also help solve the opting out problem. Your season isn’t over after losing two games.

People should stop worrying about bowl season and start worrying about the regular season.

Some of these guys are going to get 3 or 4 good games on tape and then opt-out mid-season.

College football as we once knew it, is done.

Or... have all the bowl games moved to the very beginning of the season as legit non-conference games.

Keep the end of the season limited to playoffs, expanded or not.

It’s only going to get worse. Once a team gets a couple of losses, players will opt out. These quitters don’t care about championships. Expand the playoffs? Sure. You’ll see players on a 16 seed opt out if it’s in their best interests financially. That’s what happens when rookie contracts are worth millions.

Professional athletes used to work second jobs in the offseason. They used to be regular working Americans. As those days have left us and these stars morphed into kids who are on National TV for selecting a college to attend, the sport has slowly died.

Y’all beat up on a defeated UF team and think you deserve a shot at the big boys? Clemson & Bama would destroy you as usual. Enjoy the “meaningless” bowl victory and move on.

Well we haven’t seen if NF GMs care or not. 2020 won’t be an issue due to COVID but I’m not sure it will be a free pass going forward

The playoffs aren't the problem. The problem is that these players are one of the first generations to grow up with a phone and social media and everything is about instant gratification me me me culture. During the bcs there were only 2 teams playing for a title but the bowls were still awesome and meant something. Now we have 4 title teams and the bowls are meaningless? That doesn't make logical sense. Once fournette and others started quitting on their teams a few years ago it became the new hot thing now everyone wants to do it so they can get all those likes on their status. It's a generation issue not a playoff issue.

Going to 16 teams would be dumber than all frick and the first several rounds would lead to shite like bama vs coastal carolina which would be cool for about 3 minutes. Diluting down the playoff pool doesn't improve it in any way.

I agree. There’s no solution. Idk how long it will take but eventually the only postseason will be the playoff, regardless of how many teams get in. The only way bowls will survive is if they are part of the playoff or become kickoff games on Labor Day.

The bowl system is just a relic of better days.
