Say what you want, but Chief gave LSU some amazing defenses at LSU. He is well respected in coaching circles.

frick his fat arse for the way he went out the door and his complete and total lack of recruiting on that side of the ball that left us in quite a bind

Probably just wanted to move back to Knoxville and retire. I’m sure he could still get a job if he wanted one.

This is the equivalent of a high-falootin executive retiring and becoming a Walmart greeter.

No stress - compared to previous job - and gets him out of the house.

Middle school coaches don’t have to stop many passing offenses. You generally just stack the box unless you have a Manning kid as the opposing QB.

If I was a millionaire, I could find something better to do than coaching middle school

Less stress and he obviously still loves to coach. Now he can get back to the roots of developing and teaching the kids. He really get to once again experience football in its purest form again.

I wouldn't say he actually coached the Aggies.
Also-good for him.

Les Miles recruiting and deep louisiana and east texas talent gave LSU some amazing defenses. If anything, 3rd and chavis was holding us back.

Some people enjoy coaching and teaching kids. Let the man live his life. Probably much happier than most people

Or a kid that grew way too early and is 6'3". We had one of those, awkward and not that athletic, but 6'3" in 8th grade so we just threw jump balls to him and the defense was helpless

I'm shocked more coaches don't do this. Still get to coach and enjoy the game but there is absolutely no stress in it.

Emory Bellard was retired for 2 or 3 years from MSU when he was asked to coach Westfield HS north of Houston. Turned a 2-win team into a playoff/district champion team before retiring again. Seems like a great way to end a coaching career, just focused on teaching without having to be a fundraiser and politician.
