That is life sometimes. It's not always fair and it can be cruel, but Joe made his choices on this matter. He weighed the options on how to handle the shower incident and decided to let the truth lie dormant. He chose wrong and his legacy is paying the consequences. He is not the victim of character assassination. In fact he laid the ground work for it himself years ago.

Not that the sentiment applies here, but he did take out half of the organized crime family presence that night. Forget that it was for his own personal gain and it could have been seen as vigilante justice.
