Got to think he has a few good seasons left in him
Nope, he's done. He does not have the speed to do the things he used to do anymore.

Wasn't he supposed to be charged with some type of felony soon?
Posted on 2/28/17 at 7:11 pm to Jcorye1
Yeah he looked pretty bad last year. He isn't what he used to be.

Washed up. Might make it as somebodies "in case injuries hit us" CB5 on the depth chart.

Pats will pick him up for $5 mil a year and convert him to nickel safety.

Maybe. Grimes had a bad year his last in Miami (2015) and had a good season this past one.

I don't get why everyone thinks you can dump slow CBs as safeties in today's NFL. He cannot play anything approaching linebacker, so he's useless as a SS and he cannot cover the deep zones so he's useless as a FS.

On what planet? I watched an entire season of him getting just torched this year, so why on God's green earth would you put him back there to defend against 9 routes?

Wouldn't mind my Titans picking him up for a year or two on the cheap. He cant possibly be worse than anyone else in our secondary.

Rod Woodson did that toward the end.

Rod Woodson also retired before Revis was even in college. The game has changed so much over that time period, and there's a debate to be had if Woodson's speed crashed to Earth like Revis's did.
Basically at this point you can ask Revis to play cover 2 CB. He will be outrun on crossing routes, and he is forced to give up way too much cushion in man. While the end result was sudden, he's been having issues for a couple of years. In NE, he was almost exclusively used on CB2s because his speed and agility were starting to decline. His first year back with the Jets, he was beat deep enough that a knowledge football fan started to wonder. Last year he showed the only way he can take away a deep threat is by giving up so much cushion he cannot break on hooks and ins.

Because, Madden.
It's frustrating that people don't understand safeties and their roles in most defenses. Yes you could pay Revis money to sit back there, but you're asking him to play a position he's never learned before, to learn new techniques, to go from being almost a strictly man corner to deep zone shell looks, and take on blockers in the box because he is just not athletic enough to be a Free Safety at the NFL level.
Why would you pay a known financial headache that when you can probably get similar production from a 4th round Rookie, but without the upside.

So take a guy who can't cover and put him at arguably the hardest position on defense

He's only 31.
31 is the new 50 in the NFL. He's done.

Rod Woodson was still pretty damn fast past the age of 31. He took 7 INTs to the house after moving to safety, including 2 his 2nd to last season in the league.
