Montgomery ( Bama State)
Huntsville ( Bama A & M )less remote or more appealing than Tuscaloosa or Auburn
Baton Rouge ( SU)
Houston( Texas Southern) P View less than 50 miles away
Tallahassee ( Famu)
Daytona Beach ( Cookman)
Jackson( JSU)
Grambling/ Ruston
Pine Bluff
These aren't world class cities, but outside of Valley or Alcorn( good fans) the smallest SWAC towns are no smaller/ remote than Clemson, Starkville, Oxford or College Station.

All you need in today's world to coach is a wealthy booster.

I would have much preferred Rice as a position coach because I think a lot more of his success was due to work ethic and technique vs. natural ability (Deion). In his playing days Deion came across as a guy who would be a terrible coach. However, Deion does have a lot of name recognition and a lot charisma and if he proves successful, shows he’s serious about coaching long term, and displays the maturity and command required of the HFC of a major program I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at FSU one day if they continue to wallow in mediocrity.

If Jerry Rice just started thinking about coaching, then he isn't serious. Coaching is a mentality, it's something you think about as a young person, not when you're in your 50s.
Jeff Tedford convinced Lane Kiffin to give up his senior year of eligibility to get a headstart on his coaching career. (OK not surprisingly,) Kiffin already knew he was going to be a coach.
CJ Anderson just retired as a player a couple of years ago. He spent a year as an assistant at Cal, then last year was his first season as a high school head coach (finishing 7-3).
Deion Sanders started coaching just a few years after he retired, and has been at it for at least 10 years now.
Jerry Rice is now just thinking about it at 59 yrs old?

Jerry and Deion already coached against each other, so why not?

That being said I don't underestimate Jerry Rice. I don't doubt he could be a great CEO/ recruiter/ ambassador. And who better to work with the Wide Receivers/ DBs than Rice? Probably better & command more respect than nincompoops like ED Oregeron, etc....that P5's pay tens of millions of dollars.

quote:Thats bs and typical thinking about players like Deion Sanders" natural ability ". There are a lot of very fast people that can't cover like Sanders who worked hard & understands the position. Jerry Rice learned that " technique " at a small HBCU & is the standard for his position .

Deion Sanders and his wife do not need the money ( she's probably wealthier) so I hope that he realizes all of the HBCU legends like Rice & others that he has inspired . Remember how P5/ G5 schools & fans & media mocked him for having the audacity to want to be a Head Coach. Stay there or another HBCU and do something larger.
Sanders & Rice can remind fans , recruits, arrogant p5 fans that these young Black kids do not need your nutrition table, Slides, Sleep Pods, $50 million dollar lockerroms, barbershops, game rooms..etc....If you are a standout the NFL will find you.

So you just assume didn't have a work ethic due to his natural abilities? Garbage. When he played for the Falcons multiple reporters/talk show hosts touted his work ethic on the field and in the film room.
And I don't get why he would "come across" as someone who would be a terrible coach?"

The people he was with that night and ultimately testified against were acquitted on self-defense, IDK where all this "Ray Lewis is a murderer" stuff keeps coming from.

I guess Bill Belichick doesn't like DBs to actually do stuff other than only covering the other team's wide receiver then

I'll give Deion this (despite that I think he's overrated in the history of the game from an all-time perspective. Despite all the flash, glitz, and glamour, Deion was the 2nd best CB of the 90s behind Rod Woodson, that's not bad because they were consistently 1-2 that entire decade but the evidence [empirical and testimonial] points to Woodson as the superior overall CB/DB), his work ethic in terms of the public's perception of him was INCREDIBLY underrated and he deserves to be commended for that, it enabled him to become a top 2 CB throughout the entire 90s, no small feat in NFL history.
