With the Super Bowl right around the corner, Thursday night’s episode of “Jeopardy!” tried to bring some football knowledge to the screen. However, much to the surprise of host Alex Trebek, none of the contestants were having it. The trio saved the “Football” category until there was literally nothing else left on the board. Unfortunately, not a single person was able to even buzz in with an educated guess for any of the five questions. The otherwise brilliant contestants were apparently ignorant to questions like what an option play is, who Tom Landry coached, what a fair catch is, what offsetting penalties are or which defensive line took the Minnesota Vikings to four Super Bowls?

These people obviously know a ton of shite about a ton of shite, but I got a nice chuckle out of this.

I wouldn't have known the answers to the Landry and Vikings question.

I can undestand not being a football fan, but this almost means never seeing a game.

I can understand not knowing that if you don't watch football.

There are plenty of sports people don't watch but still have at least a basic cursory knowledge of common terms.

Yeah. Sorry, I only watch a total of 2 NFL games a year and know next to nothing about any team prior to 1995.

Really? You wouldn’t have known who Tom Landry coached? I wasn’t even born then and I’m not a cowboys fan and I thought this was common knowledge?

It's still something that may only happen less than 3 times a game.

No. I may have guessed correctly, but I wouldn't have said it with any certainty.

With the exception of the Landry and Vikings questions, I feel like many of your casual NFL fans would know what a fair catch and offsetting penalties are. When I say casual, I mean someone that at least watches games from time to time, not a once a year type guy.

You'd have to watch college football to know what the option is these days, since you don't see much of it at the pro level.

But damn, I could understand if that was 3 women. But neither guy knew any of that?! Crazy.

A fair catch?

Probably few more times than that, I'd hazard. Not completely sure but I'd guess more like 6-7 times a game.

ETA: I was wrong, and can admit such. Just seems like it happens more often than it does, to me

The thing about football though is the announcers always explain the rules so even if you're new to it you can learn a lot.

I had a male history teacher in HS that said he doesn’t watch sports. There is an actual crowd out there like that.
