turns right into the catcher never even attempting a slide much less to the outside of the plate like everyone else does every time

Helmet to helmet. Out for the game. Unless he played for Bama.

Doesn’t look intentional. That ball was going to pull the catcher to his left where Jake was going to go around to the right.

Catcher is also planted in front of the plate before the ball gets there.

I’m biased but if he goes right he is pretty much conceding being out to me. Lucroy cut off part of his path.

don't think it was intentional but i'm sure he'll be fined/suspended for that just bc baseball is trying everything to get rid of that play

Catchers have a rule mandating they act like pussies to avoid this. The catcher violated that rule. Slow mo makes it look more like head hunting, but the runner was stumbling a bit and had no idea the catcher was gonna slide the way he did.

Bad situation all around.

Lucroy's last move before Jake gets low is leaning towards the outside edge of the plate. So Jake gets low and comes inside as Lucroy collapses on his right leg and leans back into Jake's path. Watch the movement of Lucroy's feet. Hes stepping to his left.

Its like a weak targeting call in college when a defender comes in for a low tackle and the offensive player collapses into his path and you end up with a helmet to helmet hit

Not sure what Marisnick is supposed to do there unless you want him to concede the out.

It almost looks like he planted to come back inside and then lost his balance and fell into him trying to come back to the outside. Shitty situation but I don’t understand calling him out for something that was an accident.

Far closer to a "unfortunate accident" than "awful takeout slide".

I like Jake but when I saw that he obviously took a step towards the catcher that was not needed. I bet he gets suspended.

Y’all. He obviously took a pretty big step to the left. I mean I don’t care either way but to say Jake didn’t run outside/inside towards the catcher is ridiculous.

Talking about his last step before contact?

I honestly think he realizes that the catcher moved into his path and he's trying to switch directions to avoid him, but honestly just failed to do so.

Slo-mo makes it look really bad.

Simultaneously with Lucroy, who was not looking at all.

Could make the argument he also tried to spin to his right at the last second to avoid it but it was too late.

That was all Lucroy switching into his path last second. Marisnick had no where to go. Look at where the throw is compared to where Lucroy ends up.
