Abilene Christian, Dixie State, Lamar, Sam Houston State, Southern Utah, Stephen F Austin, and Tarleton State are the schools currently w/football in FCS. New Mexico State is also a WAC member w/their football team still eking it out in FBS as an independent.

Would this be at the FCS or FBS level?

Would have to start off at FCS unless those schools did some serious infrastructure upgrades. Tarleton just moved up from DII and would be the furthest behind.

Apparently the Idaho AD (Idaho is an associate member who I assume would consider leaving the Big Sky for the WAC if the conference moved back up to FBS) recently said something along the lines of the WAC being grandfathered into FBS if it ever wanted to return though I have no idea if that's true.

No way that conference can go to the FBS. Half of those teams could not afford it.
But will be a solid FCS conference.

Makes no sense for the Southland schools unless it’s to FBS, but still doesn’t make a lot of sense.

I've heard that also. I hope the WAC can make a comeback to FBS football.

Those Texas schools can probably afford it.

Tarleton St. will get there. They're growing, enrollment right around 14,000 right now.

Yes, Tarleton will be fine. This was in the works there for a good while. I use to cover the Lone Star Conference before I got out of the media and it was widely known it was only a matter of time.

Basketball was their primary reason for wanting to move up, and I’m still shocked they got Billy Gillespie as their head coach, but D1 football will be fun in Stephenville.

They are gonna need more investments to upgrade facilities. I know they just did but they barely have an away side.

Everything I’ve been told it was a move solely about the rest of the Southland’s competitiveness in other sports, primarily basketball, and their willingness to invest in the programs.

First Tulane killed the Big East, now UNO killing their conference?

And not for even doing anything, simply being Tulane football and UNO basketball

Ehh. The Catholic schools were always full of shite when it came to them leaving over Tulane. If they hated the Wave so much they shouldn't have all voted them in.

I still can't believe the American schools were so short sighted that they sold the Big East name instead of telling those basketball schools to pound sand.
