Is NASCAR a Sport?

I honestly don't know.
Are the drivers really athletes?
If yes, then it is a sport IMO.
If no, then I would have to say not a sport.
I think we can all agree it is a competition.

Yes. Because of the endurance factor. For instance, this Sunday is the longest race of the year. Could be about 4 hours in a car going 200 mph, in 110 degree temps inside the car

I don't know if it's a sport, but it's definitely a competition.

I had lost interest in NASCAR up until recently. I attended my first race in Dallas in April. We were in the infield next to the track watching the race. To feel the force and see the speed and such was an eye opening experience for me. These guys are very talented to drive at such high rates of speed and so close to another one.
Imagine crossing the Huey P next to an 18 wheeler and you are both going 100 mph for hours at a time.

If golf is a sport, nascar is a sport.

Hugo, rather than the popcorn emoticon, can you add substance to your post?

No, it requires no athletic prowess. Tony Stewart is a fat slob, Jeff Gordon is a skinny little girly man, etc. No athleticism.

It's pretty substantial.
ETA: I'd say C cups at the least. Probably D's.

Watching a race live is an unbelievable experience but it just doesn't translate to a TV. I love going to races but I usually fall asleep watching it on TV.
