Playoff time really shows what a weapon Willson is. Teams should at least be trying to run non stop on Lester, but he is quick to the plate and Contreras can throw anything out.

Looks like he kills a 12 pack every rest day.

I know he grew up in a middle class Washington town, but that dude's genes scream 100% baw.

He is a weapon but he also makes too many wild, ill-advised throws. Lots of throwing errors this year. He and Rossie always did a great job with snap throws getting guys taking the big leads against Lester. And Lester does a great job varying his windups and the like to the point where his glaring mental block has not been the detriment that by all rights it should be.

But he's getting shelled lately, and that's impossible to overcome. Kinda looking like Lackey a bit of late, sulking and glaring at umps over not getting boarder line calls than letting that get him off his game and serving meatballs right after.

Yesterday, first inning an example, Nat batter probably swung at strike 3 that would have ended the first 0-0, ump says he didn't swing, tater a pitch or two later, 2-0 Nats.

I feel like Hendo’s location is just off, which is detrimental for a dude who throws the speeds he does.

Agreed, He has to be precise with location, and in 2016 and the second half of last year he was so we know he can. But he has not been able to find that this year and at this late stage it's difficult to think he suddenly will.

He’s a crusty ole baw - will be fine come postseason until he runs into my Brewers and their stacked lineup.

Our starting pitching has scared me all season. In hindsight, Hell even in foresight, letting Arrietta walk in place of Darvish was a mistake.
His presence in the clubhouse and performance on the field cannot be understated, and is missed greatly.

He is but I'm starting to think based on his outings of late Playoff Lester, if Cubs hold on and make it, may not be Playoff Lester anymore.

The bandwagon tag always amuses me Re: Cub fans. The facts IMHO always indicated the exact opposite.

Yeah, I was never comfortable with the Darvish signing. I had concerns about Jake, but my main concern was just not to sign him to a long term contract and they then sign a guy about the same age with more injury history and much inferior post-season statistics to a 6-year deal. Theo spit the bit there.

The decrease in K rate and uptick in home run rate is worrying. It indicates his stuff is in decline or he might be hiding an injury. The third scenario is that he's tipping his pitches somehow and only the opposing teams have been picking up on it.

Yeah and Joe keeps saying his velocity is fine, no need to worry. Well, it ain't all about velocity. Something is wrong and the time for burying your head in the sand is done. It may well simply be age is catching up, most starters begin to decline at his age.

Many I'd hope a veteran like Lester would be to smart for something like that.

Lol at using win-loss record to evaluate a starting pitcher. There’s a wealth of knowledge out there nowadays. You should use it

Yet you shouldn't discount W/L either... yes there are anomalies, but the best pitchers typically have a very favorable record.

Again, No one is happier he pitched well last night than me, I can assure you. Cubs winning >>>>>>> than me being right on a message board.

Having said that his previous 5 starts were horrendously bad. There was legit reason for concern considering is age IMHO. I hope he finishes the year more like last night than those previous 5 starts.
