My thoughts last year was he was on the beginning of a steady decline. He showed up post season, but I chalked that up to adrenaline and experience and I expected the decline I saw during the regular season to continue this year.

But he started out like a Cy Young candidate. But he has been absolutely awful since the ASB. Not sure how many more starts like this even being Jon Lester can overcome?

I wouldn't say he is done, but he clearly isn't as good as his current ERA. There was no bigger regression candidate in baseball than when he had a sub 2.50 ERA.

?

Just said the guy is extremely overrated for how much he used to get talked about by cubs fans and talking heads on MLBN and the like and he continues to back that up. After a hot start he has faded significantly and per baseball reference is on track for sub 3 war.

Now hes referred to as an average player hes appropriately rated rather than acting like hes a emerging superstar.

He was due for this regression. He was very lucky in the 1st half

His fielding independent numbers are nasty. Cubs defense and good fortunate has really helped him.

Nah, not what ya said. You had already written off a 24 year old. I got it tuned up for when he blasts 30 again. Got some good nuggets in there. K% down, BB% up with nearly every other metric. 2.5 WAR player per fangraphs

And not sure you know what an “average player” is talmbout “Sub 3 WAR”

Man y’all sure are protective of schwaber I know the thread you are talking about and everything I said was justified. All I said was his career to that point has not justified the hype and that continues. Maybe if y’all had parted with him y’all might have found a starter worth a crap but seeing what Theo has done it’s probably for the best

The throw to first worries me more than a couple of shifty regular season starts. He’ll be fine. Put it on the board.

Hell, I would too....but at the rate he's going lately and the underachievement of the starting rotation in general, I'm not sure playoffs are a lock at this point. And furthermore not sure playoff Lester could suddenly flip the switch if they do.

I was in Chicago last Sunday for the Padres game and he was honestly lucky to get out only having given up 5 runs in 5 innings. Every time the Padres swung the ball was hit hard, most of the outs were rockets right at people. Same yesterday.

Joe keeps saying nothings wrong.....well, something's IS wrong. How many more non-competitive start can the Cubs withstand? His ERA is over 8 since the ASB.

He is a fierce competitor, and therein lies my only bit of hope, but all the fierce competitiveness is accomplishing right now is Joe is keeping him in longer than he should and the game getting out of reach early.

This along with the Darvish fiasco, Hendricks andQ being so inconsistent, and the failed Chatwood experiment, it's amazing the Cubs have the best record in the NL.

I feel like Hendo’s location is just off, which is detrimental for a dude who throws the speeds he does.

That pisses me off to no end. He just looked at a bunted ball yesterday, Bote had to make a spectacular play. But largely the Cubs have somehow managed to overcome this somehow.

Been more than a couple.

Man, I hope you are right...cause it's been ugly, real ugly.
