In this day and age you aren’t getting in the playoff running triple option. They are from a power 5 conference obviously and I’m curious what they would look like with a new regime.

I have always wondered this. What is stopping them from hiring a competent coach and running a modern offense? Are the admission standards that hard?

Everyone has to take calculus and they don't have the typical "jock" majors that even places like Stanford have.

Not a lot of fan interest and it’s not a big football school anymore. Plus you’re recruiting against Clemson and the SEC.

What is the realistic best case scenario for mid level P5 schools? An occasional run at a conference championship is what Johnson has brought. That’s probably all we’re getting.

Not having near the athletes necessary is the big issue. Army running the spread would not have led to a victory over OU two weeks ago

GT tried to run a modern offense. After being worse than mediocre, the switch to this offense at least has gotten them to bowls and firm mediocrity.

True

I was at West Point when Jeff monken took over

He turned it around by changing the culture by allowing the players practice football more instead of doing all of the summer field training

They were modern, close to cutting edge, with O'Leary, Fridge, and the great Joe Hamilton.

That was 20 years ago. The landscape of college football has changed a whole lot since then

Fans may get bored with this offense, but GT they has a better chance to get to a playoff with this offense than with a spread or pro sale. It’s slim but slim is better than none.
They are maybe 20 teams who have the athletes at some point to win a playoff. And in any given year, 10 at most.

They were really only mediocre under Gailey. The Georgia Tech teams under George O'Leary with Joe Hamilton were pretty damn good.

Yeah, former ACC doormat Duke is on Tech's level now. The idea that Tech can't be better than they are is ridiculous. Even the mediocre Gailey era is a 2014 aberration away from being better than PJ teams since Gailey's recruits left.

could be it isn't highest on their priority list?

because it is a school with an athletic department bolted on to it rather than the other way around

That's a typical Tech excuse answer but why would the people running a school change the school to make the football team better? Let 'em do their thing while meeting the school's standards.

Took some pretty risky guys and also went the JC route...somewhat unusual at GT.Hit up some JC in NY for
several players if I recall.

The school would have to take drastic measures to be a consistent top 25 program. With that said, I don’t think it’s realistic to expect that on a consistent basis. I do think CPJs time has run out.
