For me...I'll take anything but the current rules. It's like a shootout or PKs currently, just totally unnatural to the sport.

What about ties?

They should go back to ties.

Sometimes, the teams are just even and both (or neither) is deserving of the win or loss. A winner should not be artificially determined by sheer attrition beyond regulation.

Move back to 50 would be ideal

Anything except for the NFL OT rules

Maybe move back the starting position so that you aren't in automatic field goal range.

I do prefer NCAA OT over NFL OT. Never like in the NFL how you can basically win the game on a coin flip. Always thought that both teams should have a chance with the ball. (especially with the rules made to basically benefit the offense).

Yeah, I personally do not want to go back to all the ties.

i just think that teams should have to go for 2 on the first possession. not sure why you have to wait til the 3rd ot. makes no sense.

I'd be all for ties this year considering UT and Appalachian State would be 0-0-1, and rightfully so.

College OTs are entertaining, but they make a mockery of the previous 60 minutes. At a minimum they should keep score differently in OT if they're going to keep the rules in place.

NFL Overtime.

Just short of field goals, College overtime eliminates special teams from the game completely.

I also think it's silly a 21-21 tie in regulation can lead to a 45-42 final in overtime.

If you do that you are making the issue the OP has even worse as it could all boil down to who converts the 2 pointer and who doesn't.

I like college OT but would be more in favor of them backing it up to the 40. Still have to do some work to score because not every college kicker is automatic from 40-45+

Starting on the 25 is a ~42 yard fg.

The overtime rules is the one thing the NFL does right that college football does not. College football overtime takes away various aspects of the game such as punt returns and punt return coverage. It doesn't even feel like a normal game. It would be the equivalent of baseball allowing each team to have the lead off man on base during extra innings. It makes no sense.

I think NFL and college should just go to an extra quarter once a team scores the other team gets a chance to respond if nobody score in OT it is a tie

For some reason this bothers me also. It really enhances the offense statistics in many cases. How often does the offense take possession on the 25 during a game, but might get 3 or 4 in OT.

I still prefer the college OT over the NFL but I think the OT stats should be a separate category just like bowl stats used to not be counted/included in career stats.

Yes my point was to make them do some work to even get to that point. Didn't state that very clearly in my original post

Get rid of it entirely during the regular season and allow for ties.

In the bowls/playoffs, just play another quarter.
